there is no problem Ben it's very interesting to have any idea of final result; I still prefer black one but the arctic blue is very sweet, moreover I bought black paint today with some sand paper (grain 120 and 180) I hope to begin this week end
Its looking very good, but I dont know about this painting thing. I had through originally that it was going to have a natural wood look with like a stain or some polyurethene. Are you sure that you want to paint it a color like this?
yes I m sure , I want it to have a good look with my keyboard, screen subwoofer and mouse which are all black (the alu case is my second mod but the first one handbuild) if you want to see more of it : http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45259
The white one looks very great ! Maybe with a white apple mouse and keyboard - i think it would look verryy great
Lovely job. Just lovely. Can't say that I like it in any color but black. The black will make the Plexi bits stand out more. That and I'm partial to black anyway. Keep up the good work. Your english is better than mine BTW!
work must go on here are thing i bought to prepare painting, black paint, sandpaper band 120, sandpaper 180, and car finished mastic I put a little order in my kitchen then I dismounted the case and I put myself has to coat the whole with the mastic and after 2 hours of drying coats it retracted has various places and fissured but it is not serious it will not be seen more after sandpapering here is the result 3 hours later then does i sandpapered with sander (bands of 120) for the plane surfaces then the remainder have the hand with 180 then I finished with very fine (there done not put above what it is but I think that it was at least of 600) result it is super stringer good there are the tiny ones and rare imperfections but I think that after the first coat of paint I would pass by again a little blow of sandpapering and it should be good? if there are professionals of painting who take the advice are good comes
So how are you going to paint it black (it will be black right?) and make sure the acrylic wont be covered by a little black layer?
I m going to use this band tape to mask the lexan i ll make a test before to paint the case of course
All that beautiful woodwork... Hidden under putty and paint. It would have looked, well, so Scandinavian with just a light stain and linseed/tung oil or polyurethane. If there's no patent or copyright, I may have to duplicate the idea as it would appear in a natural wood finish.
Lay off! Just lay off! Guys! This is piloux's project! The paint is what he wants! If you want to see what this project would look like stained, just go see eddie the dane's similar VesperDeco HTPC project here: http://www.bit-tech.net/article/115/ Besides: - most of the wood is covered by mastic, and cannot be stained. - The stain may not soak deep enough, and then unstained wood would be visible from the side through the plexi (eddie prestained all his wood pieces before glueing them together) - stain gives the case a "old-fashioned" look, which piloux may not want. - Piloux probably just used wood because it is an easily acquired building material. Just because it is wood doesn't mean he needs to stain it. Sorry if I sound pissed, but almost every person new to this thread has "suggested" that piloux stain the case, and he has repeatedly said he will be painting it black. AND HE WILL MASK THE PLEXI WITH TAPE BEFORE PAINTING!!!! So read the thread, and stop asking!
you are wright Ben I never wanted to stain it, the reason for which I used wood is that it is an easy material to work for me, for shine to give curves and round-offs. I had planned to begin painting today but I prefer to wait tomorrow to be able to buy primary color because may be wood is going to absorb painting... then I ll re-sand the whole to be on having a very good result
Hi guys today i spend my time with the painting of the internals panels, and some edges polishing on the rear panel the pics : the result on internals panels and THIS is the DARKCRYSTAL effect I take care of the window by sanding a little edge all around it, I hope it will give a light effect all around I have put band tape around window about 1.5 cm to hide the wood part behind it, this wood pârt is not very sweet... I polished the rear panel's edges too before : and after : window and rear panel were painted too but it is not dry at this time.
