Any recent CPU should be good enough. Intel might have a slight edge in pure gaming but AMD is the better all-rounder. I would wait for the AMD 4000 chips to drop.

Ryzen 5 3600 is considered current best all rounder. Like the Q6600 and 2500k back in the days.

Ryzen 4000 series will drop soon, might be worth waiting for that. Or a 3300x right now and upgrade to Ryzen 7 4000 for some serious future proofing.

Intel is still the gaming king, all depends on your budget, you can get some good value Ryzen but money no object and purely games the the strongest Intel chip is what you are after.

10600k at the lower end 6c/12t, it is all you really need.
    10700k next.
10900k if you have money to burn

I dropped for a 3600 as my 'pre-order' 3300x never showed after a 3 month wait. It is still not in stock either. Kind of wishing I'd had the cash for a 3700X but that's just me.
