12600k looks great, beating the 5800x in many benchmarks. Those e cores can pull their weight when needed.

There is absolutely nothing in this release that surprised me.

That's not a bag thing, just stating a fact.

Still.. I think the 5900x is the better overall chip when you consider total system cost.

Gaming performance at 4k is the same (only lower resolutions do you see an advantage on the 12xxxK).

System power draw on the 12900k when loaded is bad @“£& crazy compared to even the 5950x, never mind the 5900x.

DDR5 at 5200mjz to 6000mjz is either negligible in terms of better or worse than DDR4 3200mhz yet around 2.5x the price.

The motherboards are 30% more expensive for the equivalent X570 and about 45% more than B550.

The new features are nice BUT it’s too early yet for adopters really so the premium should be shelved in favour of getting people onboard a technology to ensure it progresses quicker.

    Time will however tell!

It won’t be worth buying a new mobo plus ram plus new cpu until the performance gain is much much bigger than what the 12900K offers. Most of us can get away with buying new cpus for our existing mobos and existing ram and see great performance increases that almost match today’s levels.

Yeah, I'm on a 2700X and in *theory* I should be able to cram a 5950X into the same motherboard for a big performance gain. Would probably need to replace the current Wraith Whateveritscalled air cooler, tho'!

even on that cooler thermally throttled running in 65w mode the 5950x would be superior to a 2700x it is that much of a jump. i ran one in my NAS like that for a few weeks and it destroyed my 2920x.

Yup - I bit the bullet and bought a new laptop - it has a 5900HX and 6800M inside - and it absolutely destroys my 1700/GTX1070 system in games and transcoding.

...the fan is a bit of a noisy bugger if I put it in "Turbo" mode, though.
