Looky what I got! Yay I came home from school today to a big package left on the kitchen counter (thanks mom). BEHOLD! The sheer beauty of a gi-freakin-normous gaphic LCD module! Good god I love this thing already. I am going to be connecting this beauty to a SED 1330 controller board and using it with LCDStudio. I should be able to pull of some really nice screens on this display. Its a 640px X 200px display. The only downfall is that it is a reflective type and not backlit, but that makes it extremely thin. I will be backlighting it with cold cathodes (on a dimmer to adjust for when I'm playing games and whatnot. I think that 2x12" reds for the top and bottom and 2x4" red CCFLs on the sides will provide ample and even lighting throughout the display. Then its just a matter of hacking up a fan controller bay insert and making my own stand for this to sit on my desk. I will be making an external "control center" panel for this computer. I will relocate the Power, reset, lighting, fan, and lcd buttons here. USB and audio ports will also be located in this panel. D O G S ! !
Oh yeah, another thing. The painting will be done sometime very soon here. I've jsut been pretty busy with school right now and an engineering competition im in.
Yeah man it is really freakin nice. I'm waiting for a controller board for it. Right now I'm playing with designs in LCDSTudio. With so much room for each screen to show at one time I wont know what to do with myself! Info that would need about 10 screen in LCDC can all be in one screen. I'm thinking just crap loads of trivial info on some screens, just cuz i can. But the screens with teh longest timer will be my clock, winamp, cpu/ram, email, fraps status. so much stuff at just a glance. Should really impress eople at LANs Oh, ebay is your friend. edit: Oh yeah, deffinately gonna have some fun with this display. Heres one of my LAN show off screens.
$9 for the bare display, and about $30-40 for the controller. Then probably another $20-30 for my entire control panel idea. Yup yup. 640x200 is an awesome resolution for graphic LCDs!
whoa, where did you get it if you don't mind me asking? and was it in the US? cuz i can't seem to find any big LCD's in the states looks good so far -glenn
im lovin that LCD screen... to bad your gunna be disgracing it by putting counter-strike on it... but all is good... keep it up!
lol this is gona be my LAN and competition PC, as well as my main rig. I want to enter lots of case mod comps with it, otherwise id just use a more traditional case and be over with it. CS is my game of choice, been playing it for nearly 5 years now, so its my main thing at LANs. I jsut tore apart an old VCR and will be using the small PCB mounted momentary buttons it has. I will be using the 5/8" acrylic rod ontop of these buttons and backlight them with red LEDs to make lit up buttons for the control panel mod. And here are my "show off" screens that the LCD will randomly display at LANs. obviously I wont be able to run "1337" GHz, but with some nice DDR500 and watercooling, why not push the highend of the 3GHz range
Are you sure a SED1330 can handle that display? also, where the heck are you going to mount it? Externally? Oh yeah. OOOOOOHHHH Its not big enough.
lookin really good so far dude, very nice, just thought i might point out that 'hosting' in that last image is slept wrong
