The backdorr of a car is often held up by one or two things that pushes the door up..

    Whats this thing called?
    Where can I buy it?

That would be a gas strut.

Sorry, I'm not sure where you can get them.

cgsimons_2000@yahoo.com: You almost might want to go for an electric actuator considering your mod and the fact that gas struts are usualy under quite amount of pressure due to the fact ath they have to lift the weight of a rear door of say a van.

i think i saw a case like that... cant remember the link tho. I'm pretty sure they have gas things like that for doors (horizontally mounted) that don't have so much pressure, so that your case door dosent smack you when u try to use a trunk strut LOL :duh:

In Norway you can buy them at Biltema (and any car dealer for 10x the price, I'm sure)

actually biltema has both expanding and contracting gas thingys ... I just mounted a contracting one in my case, works like a charm.

same thing, the contracting one is under $10 in biltema ... and makes a sound exactly like the one from a car.

Little more control over what pressures you have working for you than just ripping one out of a car.

HYDRaulics = liquid , with pumps and shizznit, as liquids are nigh on uncompressible.
PNEUmatics = air, with electric/mechanical compressors and stuff.

But these things are neither, when you close the boot you compress the air in the cylinders and when you unlatch it the presure forces the boot up.
