There is no better Alarm system then a Shotgun and piece of string tied to a door knob :hehe:. Can you tell I live in the country? :hehe:

Actually I would invest in a good alarm system and a good gun :naughty:. But don't end getting shot with your own gun :(. Also take some kind of shooting lessons.

How are those guys going to get alot of money for that stuff when they didn't take the cords right? Sorry to hear though but atleast they left before they could take all the other good stuff. I always fear of being robbed and since I'm almost always here I may have to deal with them, you know like hide or run :hehe:.

C'mon you wouldn't actually kill some kid just for stealing your console, would you? You don't need a gun to deal with some thieving kids.
It's amazing that they had the guts to sneak into your home while you were in the other room though. You need a dog. A big scary one with big teeth. :thumb: Nobody would have got in through the window without the dog noticing. ;)

They left that hi-fi gear... the Sky decoder... those speakers... Hmm... they broke in while the flat was occupied.. sounds to me like someone who knows you, and your movements. Anyone dodgy in the same building?

Ah right. Well, yes, there was an open window, but that faces the rear of the complex, over the car-park, which isn't that visible to outsiders tbh. They didn't come in that way though, they climed onto the balcony, picked the lock, and walked right through the patio door.

The thieves may well not have realised that I was actually home. My girlfriend was asleep, and I was at my computer wearing my headphones, not making a noise. They didn't take any of the cables for the consoles as I doubt they'd manage to. They're all running through the cable-management-system in the back of that hifi stand.

As for controllers and stuff, I guess they were disturbed before they bagged them.

Pookey head: I live on the first floor. I'd love to see somebody even try to jump off a balcony carrying that TV, or even one of those speakers. They'd just break their legs.
As for the sky box and hifi kit, as above, they're all strapped in via cable-systems and it'd take you at least 15 minutes just to free one item probably. I wouldn't think it's anyone in the complex. The area isn't that great tbh and burglaries aren't uncommon. The thing that worries me most though is the big bookcase of DVDs that they didn't touch, and just makes me think they'll be back for them. Going to shift them to another room though, get the locks changed, and an alarm installed.

As for games inside consoles: Yeah, MSR in the DC, Viewtiful Joe in the GC, but nothing in the XBox I don't think. But the XBox was hacked which is a bit of an arse to do so will have to do all that again.

The gun would be for defense, you know if you point a gun at them they will probably run. I know someone who a crook was trying to get in and he pointed a BB gun at him and he ran away :hehe:. Actually there is alot of people around here that have guns for this very reason. I know a guy who has TONs of guns like he has 3 Uzis and he has every gun the US military has ever used :eeek:. I think he has AK-47.

I knew there was a good reason why my cables are so messy :hehe:. They would have to spend hours untangling mine.

Hwulex…This doesn’t sound like kids. Just because they took the gaming stuff does not mean they were kids. Just the opposite IMO…First they climbed a balcony to get to the window, then they picked or jimmied the lock to gain access to you flat. They took the items that were the easiest to move and would produce the biggest dollar return for their effort. Most people will retain SNs of their stereo equipment but not gaming consoles…after all…who would think a robber would take stupid gaming consoles when there are much more valuable items right next to them? I am truly sorry for your loss, but at least you had the foresight to get renters insurance.

I hate to say this but it looks like an inside job. Someone who has been in your place before…may not be a friend…maybe someone that came over with a friend or was at a party you threw in the place. I have been hit several times and it always turned out to be someone I remotely knew. I got a dog (big one) and have never been hit since.

Have fun in NY City…the place is a blast.

That's just it. A dog, any kind of dog, will hear anybody. Dogs have teh uber sensitive ears. I used to have a huge ~over 2 meter high fence around my entire rather large yard and my dog always knew when someone was in the alley regardless of that. He was always out there barking his lungs out. I know, cause he would bark at me as well, until he heard my voice. It doesn't even have to be a big dog. Even a little yappy dog is enough to tell you if anyone's there.
A dog is also a good idea for us computer nerds, cause it gives us a reason why we have to go out for walks every day.
A gun is a liability, and it's dangerous. ;) Besides, there's plenty of other things you can use to scare em off... I have a great big whomping baseball bat, and some nice airsoft guns.
If someone had entered my home without anyone noticing i'd be worried. :worried:

I agree with Bluebark, it is probably someone you know or someone that has been in your house. Atleast thats what I have heard. Strangely enough around here you stand a high chance of being robbed if you have a collection of guns. Like someone who lives a couple houses down from me has a couple shotguns and rifles for hunting and he has been hit I think three times. He is a big biker dude too. He was hit when he was gone. They usually know when your home and when your gone. They don't want a fight so they will rob you when your away.

I guess it could be someone I know, but it's unlikely imo. This area is notoriously bad for break-ins. It's quite a nice area, just gets hit a lot. The complex of houses and flats I live in especially gets done a lot. Plus, there's probably only been about 10 different people ever been in my flat, most of those are family or close friends.

As for the dog idea; it's good in theory, but (a) no pets, and (b) even if I could, I can't be arsed looking after a dog. If I could get a cat as menacing as a dog (discounting tigers, lions, etc) then sure. Cats rock.

Hope they get those *******s. But that must really freak you out. You're right there, what would they have done, if you'd disturbed them whilst in action ... imagine your gf would have been there alone. I hate that feeling - I always had it when sleeping at my gf's house alone with her, never could sleep that good. But as I said to begin with, I really hope they get them.

    Condolences, dude.
I hate hearing about scum like this - I honestly do wish that this country had a FAR harsher legal system for such creatures.

As for "Killing some kids for nicking my game consoles"?
    No, I wouldn't.
I WOULD happilly put a bullet through the skull of any sub-human piece of crap that thinks it has the right to violate my home and disturb the feeling of some slight security and right to relax I have when here.

I have a girlfriend and a 7-month old daughter living here in this flat and if I disturbed a burglar, they would NOT be leaving on their feet.
They'd go down hard and fast so they didn't see my face, and if they tried to fight me in any way then they'd be knocked out - If it comes down to "me or him", then damn sure it's gonna be ME.
If I have to merely blind them with the huge torch I keep by the bed then fine.
If I have to use the airgun I keep by the bed then fine.
If it comes down to lethal force from my "ornamental" katana... then fine.

You break into my home, you leave your rights at the door. You are scum, and I don't care how many crack habits you need to support - or if you have kids to feed. I have kids to feed too - I don't need to rob people to do it.

Speaking of crack habits and violent crime, surely the technology now exists to engineer someone's body to be lethally allergic to illegal drugs?
    A two-tier three-strike system...

If you're caught taking crack / heroin ( Or whatever... ) once, you get a warning and a monetary or custodial punishment.
If you're caught twice, then you get the same as before, but moreso.
If you're caught three times, then you are taken to hospital and your body is altered.
Either way, after that it's "No more drug abuser".

Violent crimes - how about a facial tattoo system, with the third strike in this case being permanent incarceration in a a place with the bare minimum levels of civilisation for survival?

Umm... sorry, ranted a bit there!

I never said I would shoot to kill I would shoot to "keep them there". You know a guy can live without a toe :hehe:. Actually I don't own a gun and could not beat anyone up but I could slash their tires while they are inside :D. Yeah I like that drug idea that would work. I think if you kill someone or something to that degree you should have your "thing" nailed to the floor in a house and set the house on fire and give the guy a knife. :hehe: LOL :hehe: I know thats to extreme and that would never happen but it would work(also it would only be for guys).

Thanks for the comments everyone. :)

Had the agent's handy-man come out whilst I was away for the week and fit dead-bolts to the patio doors, and is coming back in the week to fit an alarm box on the outside, etc.

Reverend Scapegoat: Whilst I appreciate the strong defence of your family, surely if it was you or him, it'd be better if it wasn't you. You said yourself you have a girlfriend and a daughter in the other room. No matter how much material stuff they would be getting away with, surely all your personal safety is more important? If I had have walked in and the guys threatened me, knowing myself that my missus was sleeping in the next room, I'd have no hesitation in saying "No trouble guys, please just leave".

I did kinda mean that if one of us was walking out of there, it was gonna be me.

Anyway, if they saw my face I wouldn't for a second consider letting them leave. I know what neds are like round here - they have a habit of jumping you and giving you a kicking at random ANYWAY, so if one knew that I'd seen him robbing my house - even if he took the opportunitty to leg it from my house if I bumped into him and 30 mates in the street a week later I doubt I'd be walking away from the second encounter...

No, if I'm threatened in my home then whoever does the threatening won't be getting a chance at "retribution". ( Because that's what pisses me off the most - these scum think they have the RIGHT to your stuff, and actually get INDIGNANT if you try to stop them taking it in any way. )
