600 quid rent (per term), owe my folks 200 (per term for summer rent which they paid for me) so that leaves 500 quid/ term to live off. Thats pretty much all I've got bar overdraft and some wages from the summer. No more spending stupid amounts on PC bits 'n' bobs this year
Nothing Investing it. The interest i get on it will cover the extra we have to pay back and leave me with a nice sum at the end -- Murdoc since you get £4k (which is fairly high if not the highest amount you can get from a student loan (AFAIK?)) does that mean you're also in the bracket that gets tution fees paid for you?
My form got lost in the system this year .... so no student loan for me yet. When I do eventually get it I will be using it to pay for rent and food.
I get the grant beacuse I come from a poor family, and my loan, hoping to make it last more then one year and also use it for a car in my 3rd year so I can get to my sandwich placement. The loan im getting is only £3k, rest is a grant. I would have difficulty doing uni without the loan tbh, but I took out 3k in the first year to see how far that would get me. 'doc
Tuition: $3000 Pell Grant: $1300 Student Loans: $1400 Total final earning by being poor: $-200 Gas to travel to school: $45/week Lunch 2 times/week: $4 Books: $400 Scantrons for one semester: $10 Insurance: $150/mo ect. ect...
Roughly £3000 a year which divided up means i have about £12 a day to live on. Mainly spend it on food and other basic things like beer.
$24k in loans over 2+ years. I spent it on trips to Vancouver Canada and my girlfriend who lived there at the time. How? Employer at the time was paying for my classes. Government gives the school money in form of a loan in my name - I show receipt to my employer and they cut me a check. This was about 5 years ago and I am still paying those loans off (260$ a month). Would I do it again? Absolutely - those were the best vacations in my life and the 260$ a month now I don't even miss.
Well, i finished uni last year, but that last year was a financial nightmare! I got a £3k (exactly £3000.00) student loan, from which i had to pay: £1125 fees £250 a month rent (for 10 months). Hmm, that means im already 625 quid into the red... Then i had to pay for bills, food, travel, books, socialising etc... So, it's weighted so that i HAD to either work during term time (impossible during my final year), rely on my parents (who were paying for my sister's 2nd year in uni), or work 2 jobs during the holidays. To then see someone spend their first loan installment on a new hifi and tv system, and to then live very comfortably off of handouts from their parents was a major annoyance!
Silence, i think by law your parents have to stick something into your university "cash pot". Youmight want to look into it, an old flatmate of mine told me this, and hes very clever with these media/law things!
Got £3070 and am paying my tuition fees. Still got some books to buy, but the rest is in saving for a trip to Hong Kong next Summer . Parents are paying for food and accommodation and I should be getting a job sometime soon to pay for luxury items.
What am I doing with my student loan....hmmm wishing it existed. I'm a middle class, white male...so the gov't gives me nothing. Damn my parents for not bieng a minority. lol
Ah, i'm not complaining that my parents didn't give me money in my final year, they have always been very supportive and wonderful (hell, i've moved back in with them whilst im working towards getting one of those career things ).
rent - £600/month bills - £150/month food - £hell knows stuff - £hell knows social - £hell knows tuition - £3660 a term loan - nil hang on, I dont like these maths tbh i dont really want a student loan though, ill only end up spending it on crap, and i have enough crap already
