How is it possible that a project like this drops down to 4 stars???????????? I see projects with five stars that don't even come close to this work. Gave you a fivestar. ( Back to five stars where it belongs )
Yes, I did see those. That mouse is a first generation logitech from the looks of it. It's no MX1000, but it is sculpted. I proably won't be going to million man LAN.
Hey Zap I have just read through this entire thread during my 3d Cad and Drafting class and have seen your renderings of your case it is beatiful. About 3 years ago a buddy of mine got me started on case modifications and my first being an old Zenith Data Sytems with the attached monitor on it . I will have pics of it and my other mods later but then I did a briefcase mod which has been done many times and mine did not compare those that have been done. So I realized then that I want something that somone has never ever ever done. A wood case (I started it about 2 years ago and have been working on it off an on.)! I have chosen to make mine out of 1" thick Bloodwood! You thought your Paduak is expensive try paying $400 for 15 BF, that gets real darn expensive . The design of it is that of a prison! Buddies of mine @ lan partys like messing with people computers so i am making it impenetrable. I havn't been taking pics of it for project logs but I will have some finished pics on bit-tech.net shortly! I cant wait to see your finished case! -MiLwOrkZ- *Project BloodWood* I wish i had a cnc laser cutting machine!
Cool I look forward to pics. Wood Case's are nothing new, but I am trying to build the largest power/size ratio of wood PC, while adding some new tricks such as solid state buttons. I notice you are in Texas also. Are you in Central Texas? If so check out www.AustinModders.com
Zap, great work so far (as always.) If you haven't found something suitable yet for your hinges, take a look at http://www.rockler.com/ecom7/product_details.cfm?offerings_id=9833 They are a good woodworking supply store, and have actual stores in TX. The link should take you to the hinges for small boxes. You can also search on their site for "piano hinges" They have solid brass, as well as other choices. You might consider the Soss concealed hinges... Great project!
man those renderings are awsome hmm Austin texas eh? Im from houston Great project man Hope that mouse turns out all right.
Hmmm, not bad Feels kinda groovy, al you need now is a set of 60's TV feet to make it really stand out.

lol more and more wood cases! i think its the future in modding to acctually make the case instead of just changing an already exsisting one but who am i to talk, im so bad and coming up with my own ideas these days, and was so desperate for something i did a mock of eddie the danes vesperdeco htpc. right now working on a gaming rig (project punisher) but im so full of ideas that i have no idea how ill accomplish or what ill do, im just happy to see someone with your skill modding and not being like me and just sittin here stairing at what others have already done I NEED MY OWN IDEAS DAMNIT
How about right now... ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I showed Redwood Version 1.0 at AMD Day at the University of Texas campus: http://www.zapwizard.com/events/amdday05/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This weekend and today I got quite a bit done I finaly have busted my first dremel completly. I bought a new normal dremel, the XPR 400 doesn't seem worth the extra cost considering how rough I am on my normal dremel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scroll sawing out the touch wheel. Also note: I rough cut the side curves. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- That is one fine blade, check out the cut-out circle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I used the router attachment on the dremel to route out an area for the Matrix Obital LCD to sit in the wood. http://www.zapwizard.com/projects/wood/Woodwork/19.jpg The LCD sits just where I want it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.zapwizard.com/projects/wood/Woodwork/20.jpg I also routed out the area behind the spot LEDs to allow them to be inset into the wood along with any resistors and wires. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is lots more coming. Teaser:
Couldnt explain what I felt, its just great, and a several ideas are given to me, when watching this build..
oohhh you crazy *******.. can't wait to see what you come up with for the mouse. Front looks good so far - looking forward to seeing what you'll do for a lense on the LCD.
