Hey all, just doing some research for when i build my pc, i am looking to buy a very good soundcard, i have probably a budget of about £150, maybe as much as £200 and want the best i can get with that.
I will be listening to pretty much music only and i will be outputting to a decent amp
    Any recommendations?
    Thanks
    Rowan

Unfortunately, the 150-200 region is rather barren with regards to soundcards...

There is some nice kit at around 120 quid and some fantastic kit at around 230 quid up.

To clarify more, will you be listening to music or making music?

if your outputting to an amp, analogue will sound better in my opinion.
unless you want 5.1 or 7.1
but for music im guessing not.

for music there is no point getting one with digital connection, unless you like having a lot of DAC's and/or ADC's.

if you have that much money to spend rather then just getting a decent soundcard and then playing it through some crappy pc speakers, why not buy an amp and some nice speakers to go with it?

    Amp - Cambridge Audio A1MK3

Speakers - Eltax (cant remember model but they were around £100)

and havent got a set of good cans yet, will ask about those when i have enough money to purchase with.

    Cheers

EMU 1212M and Grado SR-60 would come out to under 200 pounds total, by my crude conversions of dollars to pounds.

For that price, that is an EXCELLENT card iirc.
Highly reccomended as the best entry level computer musicians card, mostly due to its excellent sound quality. Don't know anything about the EMU really; but seems kinda like overkill for what you want.
