    I'm looking for a graphics card for my desktop PC, its a AMD Phenom II X4 955 with 4GB ram and I'm planning on running windows 8 when I get round to reinstalling.

    I'm not expecting anything much just something better than the ATI Radeon HD4200 thats on my motherboard. I don't really game anymore but have a Dual monitor with a smasung syncmaster2433 running 1920x1200 and a syncmaster 2243 which should be running 1680x1050 but my graphics card doesn't support it so its running at 1600 x 1200 with big black bars down the sides.

    Anyway what's the best card to get for around £50 ideally quite if not silent (I have a slight NVIDIA preferance but I'd consider ATI if its better for the money)

    Thanks!!

    Yep that sort of thing, ive seen a couple with the 610 and 2 Gb DDR3 or the 630 with 1Gb DDR3 not sure which would be better for me?

    far better IMO but yes its a tenner more than the £50 budget - if you could nudge up to £60 or so then the nv GT640 becomes an option as well

    I chose the GDDR5 cards , as they are simply better for gaming - and under a fiver more than the DDR3 versions; and the GT640 is massively faster than the GT630;

    the G^20>GT630 are effectively the same card , both have 96 cuda cores (the gt 640 has 384) the 620 is clocled at 700/1200 , whereas the 630 is clocked at 810/1600 , with DDR3.

    so IMO that extra £10 or so gets you far better `oomph` for your money

    I could go the extra £10 (ish) but the big fan / 2nd slot vent makes me think its going to be a bit noisy.
