I was wondering if we'd see something of this nature come up with the theme. Well-composed and the grain, whether from high ISO or added afterwards, works very well for the subject. I'm not too big on the little bit of vignetting though.

I like it, especially how grainy it is.

    Thanks guys :)
Grain intentional; shot at ISO3200 on a 20D.

The lines may be of a baking ingredient origin. And that syringe is crappy thermal compound that you get with HSF kits. :D

Fantastic atmosphere with the grain and the tint. :)

*May have ninja-added it, and the other shot, to the POTM site*

I've got to say I'm not too keen on this.

The composition does not lead my eye to any particular focal point, it all looks a bit too placed for me, rather then you've actually just taken a snap before doing a few lines. I suppose that is the difficulty with this type of shot, making it look real, but to me it just looks posed.

Also I don't think the grain comes off well, it doesn't look like normal grain to me, not sure whether or not that's a result of post processing or just how it is on the 20D.

You mean you ain't a heroin addict? Or a coke fiend? Both (lines suggest coke, syringe suggests heroin)?

Some tin-foil or a tea spoon in the pic would of been nice to compliment the syringe. However, it's a nice pic. Good Job!

I thought about it but figured it would have been too cluttered.

I dissagree, I think the focal point of the composition is the 2 white lines closest to central, the fact there both regimentally arranged and clearly favoured adds a touch of rigidity to what would otherwise be a chaotic piece. The juxtaposition of the clump of powder to the side and the position of the pointing, rolled up note further accentuate this.

I would also compliment on that grain as it allows 'the starting lines' to come across as clear white, whereas the rest of the compositon looses focus, the only thing I would change would be to remove the the second 10 pound not on the far right and bring the shot in slightly, although the paper used on notes always photographs well.

Ofcourse taste means nothing, I prefer Alien 3 and my favourite Bond film is OHMSS so mayeb I should just shut the hell up
