Because it makes more money and reduces distribution costs (one of the things that pisses me off about Halo 2 and GoW, map packs should be free if they are core to the game)

He might need a PS2 to play it on though

I think this is a great way to distribute games. Although allready having to own legend is a bit of a bummer. It would be good to see more games released over Live in this way.

They've got a delivery system to match Steam, all they have to do is use it.

True, but episodic games on Steam, like SiN and HL:Eps have been fraught with their own developmental problems and forum response has led me to believe that when given the choice, customers prefer an actual copy of the game, not a downloaded one.

No, no, no! Episodic content can be good! Just you wait until the weekend, then my thoughts shall air in full!

The problem with episodic content is that you end up paying more, for less, if you buy it as it comes out.

The part I don't like about episodic content, is that if something happens within the company and the project is dropped, you end up paying for the beginning of a game that you'll never get to finish. It just feels a little risky compared to buying the full game on disk.

if they don't charge $15 an episode though or something

So far episodic content for something like HL has just meant that we are paying more for less game time ...
I think that's pretty much true for all of the episodic content games now, plus you run the risk of development being shut down
