    Hi all

    I have a 1366 motherboard at the moment with a x5650

but looking on around i could get a duel cpu motherboard for £80 with 2 e5540s in

i was thinking of swapping out the cpus for 2 x x5650 cpus and using that instead

    the motherboard is a
    INTEL S5500BC SOCKET LGA1366 DDR3 SERVER MOTHERBOARD

    https://ark.intel.com/products/36601/Intel-Server-Board-S5500BC

so would this work with a standard atx power supply eg a corsair cx750 and standard ddr3 ram

    and a corsair 750d case

i want to use as a game server eg ark survival evolved

or would you have any suggestions

    Thankyou for your help John

CPU's are on the "list" on intel page, so they'd be OK.
DDR3 ECC RAM - So not the normal desktop stuff.
This thread suggests the bpard might fit in the 750d - http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=122924 - its a 13" by 10.5" board - but the last post say Corsair don't guarantee it'll fit..
    PSU - no idea sorry.

750w should be more than enough power and that CX 750 supports the correct EPS12V 8pin connector.

However, it only has 8x PCIe headers and the 2nd CPU socket will restrict the use of large gfx card plugged directly into the board.

    hope this helps

I dont see any PCI-E x16 slots on that board. You might need to mod the 8x slots to fit a GPU.

    If it's a server it doesn't need a GPU.

(And it's dual when you're talking about two things, "duel" means a fight between two people)

lol i knew i spelt it wrong :)

I found the manual too which says i need 3.5a on the 5vsb to even power it and only the high end psus have that

yeah a big GPU will need to be mounted elsewhere there isn't the room to plug it direct onto that motherboard.

could an external control like an Arduino with a relay linked separately solve your problem with the 3.5 amps?
