I've decided to start making my own case, being a first time modder (only a couple of mods under my belt) this will be a difficult task but i don't care, nothing scares me so here goes. Ill be building a perspex case with the dimension 75(height)x50(width)x55(depth). It will have to compartments because in the bottem section i will have my waterchiller and the 2 side panels will have hinges as well as the 2 lowers parts of the case front and back. The case will have an aluminum frame which makes it nice and light as i push it up driveway to the final distination... my room. As i build the case the idea will hopefully hit you guys. Oh and many inspiration from you guys with your great skills in modding to help me want to do this project so thanks.
Well i started by first making the drive cages which i salvaged from an old case then custom made them to my own satisfaction. I also pulled out a psu bay which i will use. So here are some pics. Overall pic of all the things i made. Here is the spare hard drive bay so in the future if i wanna add another hard drive i can store it in here. A shot of the Cd rom Drive Bay and Hard Drive bay rivited together. How i put them together, rivits and a drill. Oh and finally the psu bay that i salvaged too. Next step was to start on the frame. Pics uploaded tommorow, as the site im using to hsot the files only allow 5 uplaods a day. Also tommorow plan to finsih the frame which hasn't been finsihed yet. Edit: Fixed pics
That doesn't matter. As long as you feel good doing it... I screwed up a few mods, and finished only 2 of them all... So I'm no magician either. But hey, who expected Orac3 to be like this? So you never know what will happen... I'll be keeping my eyes on here...
Anyone got another free host i just wanna use one for pure image hosting. Iv'e got some pics of the first bit of construction of the frame.
Could be a cool project, i want to do a cube case some day... Are you using a full size motherboard and drives?
Was just using that one -theBroken Anyway, Well uploading some more images see if these work. Well the first building fo the frame started. I did the bottem sections base.Got some plans too, dont' ahve a scanner wokring so yer. First i cut the 2 L piece of alumium to size using a hacksaw then filed them flush. To make the base square i used this peice of wood which was square to put them together. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_013 Once squared i drilled a hole in the corner and rivted them together. I did this to all corners and finished with this result. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_012 You can also see in the pic an alumium bar which will be used to stablise the alumium sheet which i may put over it tommorow. To put these bars in i evenly palced them then flipped the base over and drilled holes in the base and bars at the edge to rivit them in. Did this to all 4 bars and come up with this result. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_016 Also here are some plan of the case. I got some more but i need to fix my scanner soon. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_015 Also here are the 2 75cm L peices i cut up. Tommorow ill make the other 2 and finish the basic frame of the case. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_019 Also have some pics of the riviting on the base. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_017 http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_018 LOL i doubt im gonna get any support for this mod, but hey its cool. Also flame all you want if i **** something up. Hope this post made some sense, and hope the rest do. No for some emotions i feel wanna go on
Well some Comp Specs Barton 2500+ (Watercooled) @ 2400mhz 1.925v Corsair XMS 3200 (2x 256 Twinx) @ 2-2-2-11 2.9v HIS Excalibur Radeon 9600 pro Western Digital 80gig Hard Drive 8mb Cache Antec 480w True Power I was thinking of having an on off switch for my fans as they gonna piss me off when i sleep so i picked some swtiches up with these coneectors at the back and im wodnering would they be suitable. (Sorry about quality of photo, nto soo great lgihtening and camera) [Damn site can't find the photo] It basically an on off switch with 2 connectors. I was also thinking of making a 12v to 7v controller, but all this will be done near the end of the project.
Uggg new site design confusing. Anyway today im going to hopefully get some more alu L peices to finish off the frame if i can do it in time. So some pics tonight if i do anything
Plans Plans Just scanned the plans so enjoy hopefully. Heres the actual overview. The framework that i will be working on soon. Heres what i maaay create for the phase change unit. The design of how the esky and phase change unit will work together. And the design of the case front. And the design of how all the pipings of the watercooling setup will work. http://members.optusnet.com.au/jaadam/case_mod/water_works.jpg
Neway this site hopefully keeps the pictures together. First off i bought 3 more huge ass alummium L peices. So a pic of one of them. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_027 I then cut them into 75cm lengths. Here is a pic of the rough end. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_028 Cut 2 and i now had 4. THe other 2 i cut on the second day of modding. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_029 I then filed the newly cut peices flush. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_030 Next step, attach the peices on the base. I did this by riviting them on the corners. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_031 I did this to all peices and ended up with this result. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_032 Another pic of the finsihed supports. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_034 I then cut up 2x 50cm peices and 2x 55cm peices. Here i rivit the top peices on to the side of the support. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_035 Did it again on the second peice. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_036 Then finsihed it off. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_037 Finsihed basic frame. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_038 Tiped it on its side to show how long it is. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_039 Pic of how big the base is. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_040 And then me being abel to fit inside the case. http://www.hamlesh.com/~publicgallery/public_gallery/Painting_041
Alright pics fixed. Anyway things to do tommorow Do internal frame Add Hinges Might start putting the perspex in
I didn't do much today, just cut some more peices and the bottem front perspex panel. Update #5 Okay jsut before I start, this is why you measure twice. I marked the peices then cut 2x 55cm and 2x 50cm. The peices edges weren't very good so i need to file them. So filed them all and ended up with this result. I went searching for an esky for the waterchiller unit, after about 10mins searchign i found this nice esky. I put the esky in the case to see if it fits which it did so its perfect. Heres the pic with the lid on the esky and not much room since i had only 45cm to work with. To fit the base for the motherboard and all i makred where i needed to place the L peices. After measuring, drilling, rivting all peices i ended up with this result. Als you can see how close the esky is from the the L peice. The 2 rivits holding the 2 of the peices together. This is how close the esky is to touching the top. Time to cut some perspex. So firstly i marked up the perspex with masking tape. After one cut using a Black and Decker Scorpion. Now a ending pic of the days work. Here is a design of my new watercooling setup that i quickly drew up. What to do Tommorow: Cut More Perspex Panels Add Hinges (Maybe)
