I was asked by a guy at work how the new 2010 license plates are gonna work.

Currently, you have xx09 xxx or xx59xxx for the first and second halves of the year last year.
How are they going to work for 2010??

    Plate format from 2010

From 2010, the year identifying number will continue to use the last two digits of the year for cars registered in March, with 50 added to that number for those registered in September.

    So, for example:

    2010: March 10 and September 60
    2011: 11 and 61
    2012: 12 and 62
    2013: 13 and 63
    2014: 14 and 64 etc.

xx1y for the first half of year and xx6y for the second half.

    Y being the last digit of the year, e.g. 2010 = 0, 2011 = 1 etc

So cars registered the in say November this year will be XX60 XXX

    [edit] beaten to it!

They've been around for 7 weeks now, surely everyone will have seen one by now?
