To be honest their's is probably worse. NVIDIA only had to go to 11xx, 12xx etc. AMD ran out too quick through the 1000s !
That's been the case as long as there has been a distinct HEDT platform (since 2004, so nearly a decade and a half): Socket T/H lines are better at lightly threaded tasks, Socket J/BR platforms are better at highly threaded tasks. Moar Cores has never been the right choice for gaming. Plus I don't think there were any Core2Solo socketed CPUs for X38, it was dual or quad only (and the quads were MCMs rather than monolithic, so somewhat bandwidth starved). Ugh. WTFBBQXGA+ or "3.14159K" or whatever nonsense a manufacturer can think up to avoid just telling you two actually useful numbers. Or screen sizes, where they insist on using a single dimension for something that varies wildly in aspect ration.
