I have a 850W Galaxy, I find it too noisy for my liking - get the corsair or one of those akasa ones with the racing stripes. Dont waste your money on the processor with the nehalem round the corner, get the 9450 and one of these Get a normal hdd (And a further 1TB one to put your recorded tv shows on) rather than the noisy overpriced raptor. Personally, Id wait for a month and get a 4750X2 or get 2 4870s now, that way you could bin the nvidia board and get a (more) stable/overclockable intel P45 chipset instead. Nothing to stop you putting one of the 280GTXs in there! I have one of those dell monitors, great choice
Completely overpowered PSU, something around 600W would be fine (e.g Corsair HX620) I would go for a P45 board with either a GTX280 or one of the new ATI cards, that way you don't have to buy a 790i (which IMO isn't as good) Hard drive is personal choice. You get better value with the 1TB drives but I would still go for the Velociraptor Save money on the processor and go for the Q9450. Memory is fine (4GB DDR2), at the moment I would stick with DDR2. Go for 64bit Vista, Home premium is fine. There are very few reasons to stick with 32bit. Pretty much any S-ATA DVD drive would be fine. They are all pretty similar really. The case is really a personal choice. If you like the look of it then I would go for it, you are the one that is going to have to live with it! It looks a nice build though, I would love to have it! edit: And for cooling, how about a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme?
second everything he said. although another option would be the Rampage Formula and 2x 4870 for something faster than gtx280 just to add, it's not worth getting DDR3 board because of the price of DDR3 just to get 4GB. if you have money left, 8GB is very useful i'd recommend my 20x Samsung DVD drive. i think there's a newer 22x Samsung you might be interested.
I have that powersupply, and I can't hear it at all even with all the case fans slowed right down. It may be more power than you need, but it's not going to hurt anything but your wallet!
If you are going the ati route.... unless you are certain you will never go crossfire then get a P45, otherwise an X48 is a much better choice since you will get much better fps when usingh 2 cards.
few more questions: 1. anyone know when the Q9550 will drop to around $300? 2. Micron D9GKX worth it? compared to normal ddr chips, does Corsair dom have D9? 3. 4870x2 release date?/worth it? 4. 2 9800 gtx compared to one 280? 5. buy 2 500 gb seagates in raid, instead of a rapter, speed diff?
1. No 2. YES! And yes, Dominators always have Micron 3. Definetly, Also, of you are getting ATI card, use an X48X38 chipset, if you get Nvidia, use nvidia chipset. SLI does not run on intel chipsets 4. One 280 wins 5. Yups, faster. I'd recommend to get 2 Samsung 640gb disks. They use 2 320gb platters, the Seagates 2 of 250. the 640gb are faster, and waaay faster in RAID0
