had my 290 unlocked to a 290x for a while and been running fine untill now, ive been replaying cod ghosts single player but when i get to legends never die level i get a blackscreen crash when loading this played fine on my 7970 so i think its down to the 290, intrested to know if anyone elese with a 290/290x has had the same problem and if not would like to know what drivers are being used

Dont' worry you are not alone. My first 290x went back because of this and my second card is also a bit of a tart (Both Sapphire with Elpida RAM).13.11 beta did nothing for me. Now running 13.12 WHQl and now it rarely happens.

I use Sapphire Trixx and use the option to maintain constant voltage. Also avoid using AMD overdrive as that makes things worse. There are literaly hundreds of post's in other forums with this issue with 290/290x black/red screening. If you RMA I would bet your replacement would be just the same. I have even read post's with cards with 3rd party cooler doing the same so it cant be tempature related.

    It's a case of waiting for new driver's or for a re-call.

I started a thread a while back with my issues here.....

i was sort of guessing it was software as i would of thought the crash would be more random, i read there was new drivers due soon but that was more to do with mantle and more worrying is the complete silence from amd about any blackscreen crashes, and mine also has elpida ram

Few of my friends have sent them back due to black screen issues. Knowing AMD this time next year the r290 series will be a good buy. At the moment most people I play with online are selling or rma the cards for nvidia replacements.

Its across a widespread list of games as well, enough one of the builds I made for a friend has no issues at all with 3 r290x in it.

I'm running four R9 290s and don't have any problems at all. There was just the Vsync issue which was fixed by using a slightly older driver version. I haven't had any problems with black screens. I'm using MSI cards.

If its only one game, in one place, its very very unlikely to be a hardware problem.
