Ok, my birthday's coming up and i need new RAM I have two slots open and i want pc3200 (1gb - 2x 512mb) I also want very low latency So what i am looking for is RAM that fits these specs for $300 or less (probably OCZ, Mushkin, or Corsair preferably)
More information would help, such as -- What are the rest of the system's specs? AMD or Intel? What mobo? Dual Channel? Are you planning on overclocking? Any stick of PC3200 RAM rated at 2-2-2-6 will do DDR400 at 2-2-2-6, it's when you start getting into system compatibility and overclocking that a certain brand or line will be better over the other
Ok: WD 10k 74gb Raptor AMD FX-55 480 antec trueblue psu Shuttle SN95G5 (with stock mobo - i dunno model # sorry) 6800GT BFG OC I plan on overclocking in the future EDIT: yes, dual channel
You might as well go for higher latency 4400 stuff, or basically anything over 3200. 4400 stuff will do ultra LL at 3200 speeds, but 3200 stuff isnt guranteed to 4400 speeds - if you get me. FX55 eh, big spender. Id have gone for a 4000+ and saved about $200 (last time i checked). How do you fit a 480W ATX PSU in a shuttle??
I'd go for some OCZ Gold XV PC-4000 1gb kit (2x 512), it will OC very well, has great timings and is the best Ram out, runing at PC-3200 as well. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-227-206&depa=0 A few benches... http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2386 http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2369 PC-3200 performance, compared to other very high end solutions. http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2369&p=6 ...it does require more power to run at the 2-2-2-8 timings at PC4000, though, so you might need the OCZ DDR Ram Voltage Booster (or a Nforce4 mobo). Hopefully it will work with the shuttle.
That's why he's got $300 for RAM, rather than $500. I'd go for some nice OCZ stuff, 4000/4200/4400 tbh
Have to agree OCZ is very nice, as is Corsair. beastnburger - any reason in particular why you've gone for such a huge psu? Bindibadgi - it is actually possible to mount a atx psu in a shuttle, it just requires some use of and removeable of the ice system.
Ill leave you crazy kids to do what the hell you like but imo, if you wanna oc and use an ATX psu then id have gone for a full size, or something not SFF.
