I was just handed a check for a repair in which the customer told me to "buy what you NEED, if you need more, let me know. Don't cheap out, your PC is high-end." As for need, I need a high-quality modular PSU and at least 2x512 RAM, if not 2x1 GB that HAS to OC. The person KNEW that I was an overclocker, and knows when they handed me the check I would try to get stuff to allow me to try and fry my processor. I'm open to suggestions, but here's the computer at the moment: Sapphire PURE Innovation s939 MSI X600XT 128 Maxtor Diamondmax 10 SATA Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic flash reader Haven't picked my new optical, my kids killed my Plextor hard drive cooler (I always get one, I never just trust air, plus I install it in my 5 1/4 bays anyway) The system is watercooled ATM, but will be getting phase in 1-2 months so I'm really looking to push this thing. (much like my 3 GHz 3800+) Any suggestions, por favor?
Mushkin or OCZ or G.Skill are the best OC'ing ram....i'd suggest getting 2gig of the stuff... also as for beafy powersupplys.....Seasonic or my fave Tagan....im not sure of seaconic have a modular psu but i deffo know Tagan has 580w version of their easycon psu's avail.
I've got a 2GB G.skill PC4000 kit and love it. I haven't tested how far it'll go yet, but I've read reviews of in the 270mhz range. I've also had great luck with OCZ in the past. Corsair didn't go quite as far for me, but was still very stable and went a bit past it's rated speed. I've never used crucial, but it seems there are some bad batches of Ballistix recently so I'd honestly try to stay away from it for the time being. Best of all with the G.skill is the PC4000 is only about $200 for a 2GB kit, which is crazy good even ignoring the quality. As for PSU - the Hyper perhaps, or a nice Antec. PCP&C is the "best" PSU out there, but neither modular nor, from what I've heard, particularly quiet. My 550w antec is dead silent. There are quite a few brands out there that make some nice units. I'd put at least $100 of the budget towards that.
Just bought a Hiper type-R from FrozenCPU. Got the chrome one, should look sweet in this case, and DEFINETELY fits the mod. I need to post this case, btw.
Wondering if I shouldn't get 1 GB of really high quality stuff and get my optical drive now instead of waiting and borrowing the wife's drive...
So I'm to the point of wondering, should I get the XMS with the LCD displays and a DVD burner, or just max my 220 left on RAM (most likely a 2x1 GB kit?)
I did, but I'm torn, cause the reviews are BS on some of them... I'm looking for BH-5 or TCCD, POSSIBLY UTT if I have to, but one of those if I can get it... I just love the LCD thing, especially with the theme of this mod (destroyed outside/pristine inside), but I've got an hour and 45 minutes to decide...
a little off topic but: OMG KAyinblack what are you doing to that dog in your avatar!! feel bad for it I love dogs
Same as mine then... I think the black one IS the chrome one. Mine is black, but it;s chrome at the same time... it's hard to describe... looks like a smoked mirror.
Just wondering, why 2gb of ram and only an x600? I also say G.Skill. For a modular psu, the absolute best you can get is over at performance pc's; modular, sleeved PCP&C 510's, approved by pcp&c.
Got my RAM ordered, got 1 GB of XMS Xpert, basically cause it clocks like a banshee and lights up. Nothing like saying "F*** YOU with your RAM. Besides, I don't play FPSes under normal circumstances, and the wife's machine is for PS. I just play Diablo 2, The Sims 2, and overclock. 1 GB will suit me just fine.
