My issue with this set up is the GPU.

The 1660ti can be found in a laptop for about £700 now. Admittedly the CPU will be slower but the rest of the system negligible.

Where the CPU slows the system down the 1660ti is about 5-15% faster so any gains in the CPU on the 3050ti system are cleared out.

I appreciate the 1660ti is older tech but given the games and the features you are likely to be able to enable, the 3050ti systems just seem over priced.

A quick look shows a 3060 system can be found at £900 again with a slower CPU but that's about where the compromises realistically stop. Would you spend another £150 for a slight bumb to the CPU at the expense of quite a few frames in game?

GPUs go out of being useful far quicker than a CPU does. In 3 years the CPU on that PCS system will be "ok" but the GPU will struggle where as the 3060 system with a dropped generation on the cou will still be "ok" but the GPU will be going toe to toe with the 4050ti or what ever it is likely to be called at the time which as you can note with the 3050ti on a today's generational perspective can happily play games and is "more than enough". How long is that more than enough going to last though, that's the question.

I can't predict the future and say for certain how long this laptop would be capable of running games for, but with a regular clean to clear it's lungs and renew the TIM I'd expect at least 3 years out of it, maybe even 4. You might have to lower the settings on some games but on a screen this size it probably wouldn't be that noticeable and now there's dlss to help prop it up too. If you expect longer than that you're only fooling yourself

Ultimately the same as any other pre-built or even custom built pc, you would prioritise the specs to you needs and budget and that will be different from person to person. I found it fun to look at as I wouldn't have thought the CPU would be as capable as it is.

In general very few laptops still work after heavy gaming use in 3 years either way. And I play on a gaming laptop alot and get at most 2-3 years out of them before something breaks.
