Modding 40 to 44 pin IDE connectors

    I've been looking for a pin out diagram for laptop hard drives, mainly which pins are for powering the drive. I'm probably going to craft my own adapter for a 2.5in laptop drive i have rather than buying one.

    I don't know where to find the pin out, but these images (2) (3) (link to full article) might help you - they clearly show the traces to the pins and indicate which is pin 1. You should be able to reverse engineer the rest.

    Damn right :D I chopped a 40 and 44 way cable in half and connected then together, all 40 lines soldered and heatshrinked. Except that was the other way, 44 header on meh amiga 1200 to a brick of a 200mb drive.

    The 2.5 connector is the same 'layout' as the larger type, except the last 4 pins are for power. Nice picamatures here . :thumb:
