Not really a mod, but I bought two 4 inch UV cathodes from frozencpu.com, and they melted through the tube. Is there anyway to stop this from happening again?

    They melted though the..tube.... :eyebrow:
If you're talking about the tube they come in, then it shouldn't happen in the first place.

    Maybe, its not possible?
I really can't see this happening unless like said, too much power went through, but if that happened, i'm sure the inverter would die first.

true, but a voltage spike could pass the invirter, usualy only happens to crappy psu though

o_O ok, just thought of somthin, cold cathodes should neverbeable to get close to melting anything because they run cold. i dont remember where but i saw somthing online that said they conduct almost no heat so the only way would be to have them insatlled inside an oven.

All i could think of, is them being faulty really. Because COLD cathodes don't melt anything.

I have a cold cathode in a glowpad beneath my monitor and it gets pretty hot!! I wouldn't want to touch one!! And I'm not surprised it gets hot as it has high voltage surging throug it!!
Though by it's name it should be colder the something???

first off, most cathodes DONT run hot, but the cheapass/generic/**** ones DO. I would know because my vantecs are cold. My bigfoot super saver generics ($10 a pair) are brighter yes but are HOT. As to surging electricity, after you remove the acrylic shell and touch the filament the first time and get a zzzzzzzzzzzap ****, ow - you should know better than to do it again

and if you cut the supply to the cathodes... and use yourself as a conductor... the cathodes still light! :dremel:

allthough i really wouldnt recommend doing that... it tends to sizzle your skin a little bit... apparently... :eyebrow:

i've melted my flesh before that way, yes. Alternately, try placing a UV cathode near a normal one out of it's shell, and watch it glowww.

I'm not sure they are real cold cathodes, as I don't know the difference they might be ultraviolet neon's I dunno they are about as thick as a pen. and I don't have a crappy PSU i have a Ultra X-connect psu.
