    hi,
    at mo have an radeon x600 series GPU but want to upgrade. i don't want to spend much at all ( the less the better) but would like to in future play empire total war.

    am looking at the value end (would be happy to pay this much)

    nvidia geforce gts 250 = £80

    This is the mid and not so happy to pay end of my list
    hd 4870 = £98
    hd 4770 = £100
    hd 5750 = £109
    hd 5770 = £125

    PSU = 460W and have only 1 six pin connector on PSU but many free molex conectors
    CPU = cual core e5300 @stock 2.6Ghz

    are there any other models i should look at at either end? (remember less the better)

    but need help on which to buy and which are better but need it on a budget

    £80-£85 max for value
    £100-£125 for mid range

    dont wait for fermi, they wont be cheap. if nvidia do release any 'cheap' cards they will just be re-branded old models (a la gts 250).

    they make gts230 cards that are 9600gso cards (hmm think they are doing that for OEMs right now but support DX10.1 as well pointless but they do)

    w/e you do, make sure you have the amps on that psu to run w/e you get. not sure what games you play or at what rez, but based on the card you currently run it can't be too demanding. i'd go with the gts...no need to spend the money if you don't use the grunt...plus when fermi comes out and has budget options, you could still get a little out of yours without taking too much of a hit...if it ends up being worth it.

    I'm tempted to suggest to wait for fermi, even if they are expensive ATI card prices are sure to lower hopefully a bit.
