Well, I got a hand-me-down 5950u for free. (Yeah, sweet eh?) The only problem is that one of the resistors has been blown, and I need to replace it. It's a PNY5950U, and if anyone could give me board schematics, resistor values, anything. I'm open for help, thanks a bunch.
From what I know, manufacturers don't exactly hand out the schematics to anyone (I may be wrong), so that you don't have every man and his dog building his own video card, so you'll probably have to go by whatever the old one tells you.
Just so you guys know it, there is no way to tell what type it is, because even with a microscope, you can't tell the color. I was really hoping to see someone post up an idea here for an electrical layout. Man, this is not cool, I want my free card to work.
Hey Toyomatt ... how was your trip ... I bet Canada was the best part :> Back to this post ... Unfortunately .... even with the capacitor next to it in my hand, I cannot measure it. Is there some way to test its value when removed? It is a tan color .... it seems like a common colour for these surface mount chips .... size seems to be the obvious difference ... I have seen no less than 3 sizes. Check out my new custom water blocks and case mods HERE
Thx Toyomatt ... for starting this thread. I can only hope that the new headphone jack I replaced works better than the last one ... my sincerest appologies if it does not. I will be more than happy to fly down there (or drive) either way, for a little R&R ... provided I get to meet your father... Wink Wink
Um... Chances are slim on that one. As for the headphone jack, it works if the screen is tilted farther back, but when I tilt it into better seeing position, it loses the left channel.
Forget about the schematic; you will have a much better time seeing Britney Spears on the way to the parts store than trying to find a schematic. A schematic wouldn't be too useful anyways. That little component looks more like a capacitor, and is likely used for decoupling the power supply. You may be able to run the card without it (if it powers up and gets to X fine, it is working (use Fear Factor to stress the card to make sure an intermittent fault doesn't exist)). Try taking the card to a repair shop and asking for an estimate. Failing that, clean the slot connector with contact cleaner, put the heatsink back on, and try to use it. As for the crack in the RAM chip, I have heard much about Athlon XP cores getting cracked (from improper HSF installation) and yet still work. If nothing else, a broken video card makes a nice piece of jewelry.
Nope.... just be sneaky about it. I'm sure they don't inspect that thoroughly at retail stores and if they do you could just try transferring the sticker *cackle* well actually, it's damaged, but it wasn't removed. it just said void if removed. they can be pwnd by a loophole
I can't believe I didn't notice this before ... Here is the original ASUS 5950U (V9980) I will NEVER buy PNY products after seeing this. JMHO
BTW ... I got the PNY 5950U to work but I get TONS of screen noise. Here is a pic. If anyone has seen this before and has some insight please speak up. I have reflashed with many 5950U bios, I have been trying to find a 5900U bios that will work. Is it possible to reflash to a lower model number? I have had no luck. I get a Device ID mismatch. I an using this command line ... nvflash -o -r -6 -5 (filename) I think I may need the help of someone familiar with video card bioses and how to manipulate them.
