    Hi guys,

As the thread title says I get a 56fps average when performing the Counterstrike Graphics/Stress test built into the main menu of the game which then does a time demo sort of thing with various effects etc.

    I have a:

    AMD 64 3500+
    ASUS A8v Deluxe
Gainward 6800 GT 256mb AGP 8x "golden sample" (factory overclocked to 6800 ultra clock speed)
1GB Corsair 3200 Xtreme low Latency Ram (2x512 matching pair).
Western Digital 120GB SATA Hard Drive 7200rpm

Is 56fps about right for that system or lower than expected?

My bro gets an average of 130fps with the following:

    AMD 64 4000+
ASUS A8n or something, its an Nforce motherboard.
Leadtek 7800 something or other, its 256mb PCI express, and the best 7800.
    2GB Corsair 3200 ram. (2x1GB)
Western Digital SATA 200GB Hard Drive 7200rpm.

Well a 7800gtx will get about twice a 6800gt's framerate, two gigs helps, as does the proc. So assuming you're both playing at the same specs, yeah, sounds about right. But we really need to know what the specs are.

I'm running at 1280x1024 and everything on max apart from AA=4x and Anisotropic=8x

    Hmmm....

Just ran the test again with AA=2x Anisotropic=2x and Vertical Sync=No

    I got 102fps. :jawdrop: :naughty:

Could someone explain why the sudden gain of 50fps?

It is also still dropping to around 30fps when I play the Office level online though and run into the open space on the map.

maybe the oc isnt stable with the game? so the card turns its clocks down (i read that it does that to save itself from overheating)

Was vsync on in the first round? That'll cap the framerate at whatever your refresh rate is (60hz unless you've changed it). So basically it could render at 5000 fps but it won't go above 60fps, and the average is relative to that. Rerun at 4xAA 8xAF with vsync off and see what happens. But while playing, I'd leave it on, so you don't get tearing effects (when it redraws a new frame before your monitor is done with the current one, you can get this odd horizontal line where it's halfway changing the image). The only reason you really ever would want it off is for benchmarking.

In office... hard to say. I'd imagine it's something to do with the AF, as when you're in the building you tend to not have very long draw distances so it's not doing a whole lot. Could just be something with the texturing as well. Also, everything in the office is pretty square, so AA wouldn't be working as hard.

Yeah V-Sync was on the first time

I get a LOT of 'tearing' with it off :(

Anyway, i'll just redo that test with the stuff back on what it was but with V-Sync off.

    1280x1024 AA=4x and Anisotropic=8x V-Sync=No

    I got 94fps.

    1280x1024 AA=4x and Filtering=Trilinear V-Sync=No

    I got 101fps

    1280x1024 AA=Off and Filtering=Trilinear V-Sync=No

    I got 108fps

    640x480 AA=4x and Anisotropic=8x V-Sync=No

    I got 116fps

    640x480 AA=Off and Filtering=Trilinear V-Sync=No

    I got 116fps

    640x480 AA=Off and Filtering=Bilinear V-Sync=No + EVERYTHING ON LOW

    I got 118fps

Then by all means, play at 1280 4xAA 8xAF but leave vsync on except when benchmarking :D
