anyone know anything about the rumored 8900gts graphics card, all i can find on the net is ill informed waffle ?
http://www.theinq.com/default.aspx?article=37655 i cannot find any info in the uk but thats what ive looked at before. josh
think it depends on ATI how fast the slightly faster version of the 8800 will be as nvidia basicly need a card thats almost as fast or faster than ati's fastest card. It dosen't actualy matter if yeilds are crap on it, hardley anyone buys the top end cards anyway. Pure marketing
1) it's coming from the inquirer. anything out of the ordinary you read there has to be taken with a generous helping of salt. 2) they compare it to the x2800, which everyone else is calling the x2900. everyone. 3) the release schedule is all off. why bother releasing a 8900-branded card now, when the full dx10 range is not even out the door yet, an 8800Ultra is planned, and the r600-based cards initially don't seem to have such a lead over g80 in initial benches? the <whatever>900 nvidia cards are generally refresh releases, tiding the wholel ine over until the next gen is ready. it makes no sense to get them out the door now. if the 8900 release happens it will be, at the very, very least, christmas time or later. (of course i can't rule out the release of an 8800GX2 card, but really, what's the point? the thing is a ****ing beast as it is!)
its just that i was on the verge of buying a 8800 when i started reading storys of the 8900 cards, it says that due to nvidia useing 80nm chips and upgrading the memory to gddr4 the 8900 will run faster & cooler. so im trying to avoid what happend last time when i bought a 7800 and two weeks later the 7900 came out, i agree theres no point in nvidia releasing the 8900 untill ati bring out the r600 but what if the story of the 8900 is false and is just a ploy to spoil the release of the r600 because after the initial rumors the is no real hard facts that the 8900 is real or not. http://www.short-media.com/news/nvidia_8900gtx_8950gx2_8900gts_8900gs
