    Hi People

We have 2 PCs here, one running Ubuntu (mine) and my Wife's XP home machine. They're both connected to a wired router.

Is there a way that we can access each others machines to view files and pictures please?.

    Many thanks

Using remote desktop software would work, something like tightVNC or ultraVNC as long as they support both platforms.

Do you just mean a network share, i.e. access shared folders? Or as monkeybone suggests are you wanting to actually take control of each others desktop?

Same here, viewing the windows data from linux is cake. Haven't gotten the other way working yet, but then I haven't really tried, either.

For Ubuntu, just use the file browser to select the folder you would like to share, right click -> share

It'll pop up Synaptic to install stuff.

For windows, do the same, except goto control panel -> Networking -> Disable password protected sharing (unless you want it)
