I am workin' on my friend's computer and I'm stuck.

I have a desktop that says something like "You might have spyware............Click here"
Except it's not the desktop. I can see my desktop or my icons. This "picture" is (I assume) just hovering over my desktop. I can't go in and change my display options, only my Screen Saver.
I've run Norton to no avail...
Anybody know what's going on and how to remedy it?

    Thx in advance.

Try downloading AdAware and SpyBot Search & Destroy.

    For virus try AVG Free.

This should help clean it up.

OMG. You got the worst spyware/virus/adware in the world. It's called PSGUARD. It's so deadly that it's ALL 3 of the nastys. There is no way you can get rid of it but to reformat.

I tried EVERY virus scanning/adware scanning/spyware scanning in the world. Even paid ones. NONE of them could remove Psguard.

    Psguard downloads other spyware/trojons too.
Once i went into dos mode and tried to delete it, Windows won't even boot up because psguard corrupted it.

    (It's windows 98 machine)

    Wow, You're good John...
That's exactly what that computer has. I've tried what you tried with the same results. I just dl-ed Spybot and was getting ready to run it...I'll still try it but I doubt there'll be any results. So....

    NEW QUESTION:
It's an older HP computer :gag: and she lost her recovery disk.
The case has the XP number and I have a disc, but will that work?
Can I just install with my disc and input her XP code? Like I said, It's an HP and I've never tried what I just explained.

    :sigh:

    Thx

If it's the XP cd key on her case and you have a legit copy of XP, you can just install and enter in her key. It might require activation but you can just call MS etc.

But trust me dude, there is no program out there to get rid of this spyware. It shoudlnt even be called spyware. Its like AlienatedSpyAdVirusware

I just want to make sure that it won't cause problems because it was originally installed with a restore disc at the factory. I ask that because the restore discs have a bunch of extra programs on them.

    LOL,
I'm not doubting you, but just making sure you understand the situation.

    THx

Oh tell her that none of the programs HP provided can be recoevered without the recover disc. She might be able to download it from HP though.
