On the forums for Age of Conan, Gamers are disputing credit card charges without ever playing the game. The company that is causing the dispute, Funcom, is charging new customers for the game and allowing the download, but not sending out the activation keys. Due to the fact that the company is using a SMS message system to send the keys to their clients, technical problems are keeping the keys from being received by their clients. Even with a forum post length of fifteen pages and growing, and 3 days worth of clients posting their cell phone service providers, no suggestions or work around have been put forth by any of the company representatives.
Several of the people that ordered through the web site are already disputing the charges with their financial institutions, due to a lack of delivery of a playable licensed game.
What are your thoughts of purchasing a game and then not being able to play it because rather than using the industry standard of using email to send a license key, they want to try sms messaging instead? Would you even want a software key sent to your cell phone?
