For a very lame reason, I'm after a copy of Age of Empires II...

Any idea where I can find one for sale online / for download for an unextortionate price ?

Check your local Tescos or supermarket. As far as I know, in America somehow they sell jewel-case versions of the Age of Series for extremely low prices.

If not, there's always ebay and I think GoG might stock it.

Otherwise, you can "obtain" it. But shhhh.

man i still play age of empires 2 with my sister on the occasion, such a good game, that ( for the most part ) is very balanced ( considering everyone has exactly the same stuff with only visual differences and a unique unit separating them

still awesome to watch someones face when you have 30 war elephants stampede towards his
army, backed up by battering rams to take out those pesky walls and early towers, then bombards / trebuchets to knock out the bombard towers ^_^

also i believe it was made before DRM, so you should just be able to install it onto multiple pcs with a single disk ( or at least that's what Ive done )

Fortified encampment of trebuchets, raining hell on the enemy base. Then fully upgraded mangonels, and longbowman zerg rush.

DRM was just a twinkle in the postman's eye when AoEII came out, just requires a crack.

I just love how casual it is, and how easy it is to get into after so long out.

Best is 2 full groups of archers to take out enemy units, 4-5 monks supporting them, 4-5 trebuchets or bombards raining hell on defenses, and a small group of reactionary cavalry (Scout Hussars) to take care of any counter artillery/monks

I'd wall off a fairly large area around myself (Black FOrest maps Cheesecake) then rush gold/wood farming for a quick rush to castle/imperial and spam Longbowman creation.

I'm down! Not to mention it's all about the Byzantines. Heavily gold dependent but cotdamn are they versatile.

    Plus anti-infantry cavalry Cheesecake.

pfft... your cavalry would never get past my Longbowmen
And if its an Island map, I'd love to see you try get past the flotilla of Viking or Korean warships

Dear god, I'd **** myself in an island map with the byzantines.

Koreans are masters of sea warfare. I dunno, if I had enough skirmishers, I'm pretty sure I could out pelt you. Or a few onagers.. ;) May I also say...bombard cannons?

They'd never get within range lol.

IIRC, Elite longbowmen fully upgraded has something like 10 or 12 range, Onagers have around 8 maxed, Trebuchets 12-14 ithink (depending on country) and Bombards are around 16.
Skirnmishers have less range than archers (think they max around 5-6), but do more damage to them

Either way, I challenge you to a duel!

Heads up guys, there is a patch for widescreen and colour fix: http://userpatch.aiscripters.net/

    AoE at 1920x1080 :cooldude:

Also, with gameranger, you can set up some pretty big online battles.
