Hi, Please can you give me some advice; I need to give my PC a good clean inside from dust and have read that a lot of people use compressed air to do this. But i wanted to check first if this was the best way to do it and would there be a problem if it blew dust into components / ports etc? Also I have seen some "computer air duster cans" at Maplins, but i can't remember the make and think they were reduced to £6.99 / per can? Are the ones at Maplin good or do you know of better please? I know not to use a vacuum cleaner and this will be my second time dusting after building the PC last November; the first time i just blew away the dust myself! Thank you
£3.49 for a 400ml can here's my super uber secret "air duster" technique that i use, 1. take off both sidepanels 2. open window 3. spray the crap out off the heatsink and the GPU fan and lastly bottom of the case (i use a vacuum to catch the most of the dust [don't get too close with it or you could end up with dead hardware] while the rest goes flying out of the window) 4. wipe the rest of the dust with "pc cleaning wipes", oh and the fan blades as well. 5.
small portable air compressor. you can buy one for about the cost of 4 cans of air. they work better, can use it for longer if you have a big cleaning job, and best of all cheaper in the long run. also better for the planet if you're one of those.

Hi everyone, Thanks for the advice - i didn't get chance to get and air duster today as i was busy during lunch. Hopefully i should be able to get one later on in the week. I don't fancy blowing the dust out myself again as it made me very light headed and i nearly passed out!! Cheers
Hmm it's for inflating tires, but I suppose it could work, and it's a lot cheaper than some cans of compressed air!
no. those types of compressors produce high pressure at very low volumes. you need the opposite to successfully remove dust. youd be better off blowing the dust away with your mouth. in fact, i cant recommended using any type of mechanical air compressor to blow out a PC...at least not one without proper air conditioning devices in the line. air compressors send condensation and oil into their tanks (thats why there are drains on the bottom of the tanks). using that to blow off a PC is not good at all.
no, canned air gets its pressure from a gas that cannot be in liquid form at atmospheric pressure. it evaporates before leaving the can, so little to no moisture is present in the exiting gases. EDIT: are you talking about contaminants in a compressors tank or having enough volume to blow dust away? canned air produces considerably more volume than those little 12v tire fluffers.
