Hi. I'm a n00b to modding and generally pretty inexperienced in the process. I've soldered a few things up before, but that's about the extent of my knowledge. I have an HP F2105 monitor ( http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/hp-f2105/4505-3174_7-31453816.html ) that I'm interested in turning into an all in one PC. My idea is to get an old laptop mobo and either cram it in the existing case or elongate/deepen the monitor with a custom aluminum back. I would have the mobo and monitor connected through the vga out on the laptop mobo, and the vga in on the monitor, and hopefully this would be the only visible part, aside from the usb ports, cd drive (I have an external dvd burner, so i'm not too concerned about that), and other peripherals and ports. I need to know if this is a feasible idea, as I haven't found any other threads about such a process. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I could see it working well. I would personally just use a micro ATX mobo since it would be easier to connect the monitor to, and would allow expansion slots if you use the 90 degree adapters. The two biggest issues for this system would be the weight on the stand may break, as well the cooling of the system would be a challenge. I have personally been thinking of building a comp into a metal breifcase.
Hi and welcome to the forums. On one of my favorite sites they've maid a mod similar to the one you're making. Here's a link to it: http://metku.net/index.html?path=mods/hybred/index_eng
