slughead writes "Forbes Magazine is reporting that AMD will no longer compete with Intel to make faster, smaller, and more efficient processors. Just as Mac users would be worse off if Windows didn't exist, Intel users will be much worse now that AMD will no longer compete. You see, there's this thing called demand, and when there are no competing products in a market, a good or service will always increase the price to the economic equilibrium, unless forced not to by the state (forget that right now, communists!!). In English: you're going to get less new technology, and higher prices on existing technology." On the other hand, AMD is definitely not exiting the chip business -- they're just trying to branch out from chips for microcomputers.

You've got to be kidding me!
AMD wants to know why their market was slowing, it was because there are a lot of people waiting for the clawhammers to come out! Between that and everyone's market slipping, demand wasn't going to go up. How can you spend years and billions of dollars developing a chip that will never hit the market?

Sounds like the begining of the end. :sigh:

They seem to be losing the plot in recent times.

But just as they were starting to really get a big foothold in mainstream society. I mean, they just started a partnership with a shelfer manufacturer a few months ago. That was after the american economy was slipping downward. It seems so wrong. So very very wrong.

    I am back from vacation!

I think this story is pushing the idea to far.

I think AMD will is just increase funding to other parts of the company.

AMD has always made different chips, we are one of the largest Flash Memory makers, and communication chip makers.

I beleave AMD will always compete in processors, but you can't blame them for expanding it's other area's.

BTW I have been inside, (But not driven)
    The AMD Owned Dodge Viper.
It sits in our parking lot in a truck trailer.
