*please be good, please be good, please be good*

If only to offer some proper competition to intel and better consumer choice in a one choice market.

I guess hoping for a new K7 is a bit much, but I would really like to see an AMD CPU which makes Intel CEOs feel at least slightly uncomfortable :)

Well if Zen can't boost/overclock to Intel levels (4Ghz+) it's not going to help much that it can match a Broadwell E at only 3Ghz is it...

Why disable turbo, Intel does not ship a stock cooler on this CPU, most of the boards the Broadwell E 6900k will sit at 3.8ghz+ just using default boost options.

How well Zen overclocks + price will determain its success. If 3ghz is all it does then we can all go back to bed.

If it performs as well will we get pricing the same.

Look at the poxy cooler on it. Pretty sure these will have good headroom.

With that performance, even with a skewed benchmark, it could make a decent value gaming CPU.

This is actually good, even if cannot clock much, at least at clock per clock it's competitive

The fact they released this benchmark and delayed it at the same time is the only real concern it's like here is the performance but not available before 2017. Was confirmed delayed till then.

There are lies, dammned lies, statistics and benchmarks...

No way I would trust benchmarks from a manufactuer, at least without verification from another source.

    I want to believe.....

But why would you down-clock, except for heat dissipation issues ?

TDP is 180 watts full load at 3ghz.

AMD will be releasing a TEC/Waterblock to go alongside it.

Well, "beats out a down-clocked, non-Turbo Boosting Intel i7-6900K" might be more accurate :D

Don't get me wrong, it's very encouraging that this new CPU seems to be able to beat an i7 at a given frequency, it's just a shame that said given frequency is lower than the i7 runs at stock, let alone is able to boost to. As ever, I'll wait to see what real-world testing reveals (especially once better cooling is brought to bear), but it sounds as though AMD might have another good CPU on their hands here - so resorting to this sort of artificial clock-for-clock comparison is a bit lame, imo.

Zen is probably 6months from a OEM release, And a further month after that from our hands. Wonder what this does to Vega launch, do they bring it forward or set it back. As releasing both together is probably not within AMDs marketing budgets.

Since the 6900k is about £900+... I assume the Zen is gonna be more affordable. But probably not that much more affordable right?

If AMD can get similar performance, It will depend on your definition of affordable. Id expect there top end cpu if it performs like the 6900k to be around £700, Which is a decent saving on a 6900k.

What I do not expect is some £300 monster than out performs the 6900k. This will not happen and those expecting it are living in a dream world and forget the past. Orginal top end FX chip was above a Intel EE chip at one point.

for 90% of the people who are pro AMD £300 is still alot more than they are willing to pay for a cpu. I have read some posts where they are expecting Zen to launch a 8 core 16 threaded chip for sub £200 I laughed at this quiet alot.

Agree. Just because it's AMD doesn't mean it should be budget priced.

I've never actually bought an AMD processor. Back when they were faster than intel I was about to buy an athlon 64 then intel went and released the core duo.
