theres a clip on the HSF, you unclip it and then it comes straight off the cpu

on the other hand, i got the IHS off with a uber thin razor blade much like this http://www.shaboten.com/Pict/razor.jpg

^would it be wise to take it off with a zalman CNPS7700-Cu (the huge 120mm one that wieghts nearly 1kg) cooling it?

ive not seen anyone crush it even when using something like a TT Big Typhoon, although you have to be careful that you gt gooc contact with the core

I wasnt able to, the block kept wanting to tilt under the tension from the tubes, so i put it back on with ceramique and epoxy

As the Operton cores are very similar to the Athlon cores (in fact, they are so similar the only difference really is the fact that Opertons are better overclockers).

So I think Opertons could be accepted :)

Gonna put my figure up later tonight, looking at some of the figures here, I think I may be able to push up the computer to higher speeds, but I think the limiting factor is the RAM, it seems to max out at 236MHz, although I haven't changed the ratio yet!

1.6v is the maximum safe limit for the cpu right?

I wouldn't give it more than 1.6 under any circumstance.

How is your RAM maxing out? If you loosen it to 3-3-3-8 you should be able to scale right up to 270+...

I thought Ballistix was rated to 250mhz(PC4000) No?

Also I'd say 1.65V is the absolute max :thumb:

Ballistix is very timing dependent when you going past 260mhz I've found. ;)
    Volts help a lot tbh.

Temps with the X2 scale quickly as you up the vcore... Over ~ 1.5v and the temps just shoot up... Remeber you effectively have 2 cores to cool not just one...

After some time using different timings, I've come up with the best, tbh the RAM isn't OCing as well as I hoped, I managed to get the CPU right up to 2.82GHz, but then the RAM was set to only 100Mhz!

    X2 4400+
    DFI Lanparty nF4 SLi-D PCI-e
    2x1GB Ballistix PC4000 (Stock 3-4-4-10)
Air Cooling including crossflow fan and Zalman Fatal1ty
    CPU OC'd to 2.75GHz @ 250MHz, 1.584v
    RAM @ 3-3-3-7 @ 211MHz, 2.8v :grr:

Getting 31 secs in SuperPi isn't bad though, and stable. Should I keep these settigs?

Played some games for about half an hour without any problems.

Gonna leave prime95 overnight to see what happens, including a wakeup every 2 hours to make sure everything's fine.

As for the RAM, looking at how everyone else is OCing their Ballistix's very well, I'm not sure what's wrong with mine, could it be dodgy/faulty?

EDIT: Does placing the RAM in the yellow or orange slots on the DFI board make any difference? It's currently in the yellow, I can't put one in the lower orange unless I take off the HSF then put it back (which I don't want to do, and the RAM'll be frightenly close to the HSF)

211mhz @ 2.8v, with loose timings. Thats not Ballistix!

You should get at least 250mhz with those kinda timings ;) And not with 2.8v (normally)

If you can't get 250MHz out of that memory, send it back for an RMA.

Poo, I was hoping that wouldn't happen. How long does the RMA take with OCUK? Or do I send it straight back to Crucial?

If it's gonna be a while I might as well buy Pookey's RAM for now.

But first, I'm gonna try the RAM on my parents computer and see what I get.

It may be worth trying the other slots first, regardless of how much hassle it is, its less hassle than RMAing (and to ocuk no less *sigh*), it may prove to be the issue (this is DFI we're talking about after all :p)

The orange slots usually work best for Ballistix... mine was a no-boot in the yellows, but YMMV I guess.

If you can't get 250MHz out of your RAM at stock timings, then definitely RMA, as you've got a dud set. Don't bother with OcUK, whose support is utter crap - send back direct to Crucial if possible; their customer service is some of the best I've used.

It wouldn't be wise to take it off period.

Anyways.. I'll post some results of my X2 (3800+)tomorrow... time to have some more fun I think. It's only at 2.1ghz right now. Something's a bit finnickey with either ram settings or CPU voltage.
