Hello everyone, As I'm sure you're aware, FreeSync Technology is here and there are plenty of positive reviews online that i wanted to share with you. I hope you find this thread informative. FreeSync technology gets the gold award from TTL and OC3D. no My still relatively new AMD Graphics card isn't supported.... I dont know who would pay £430-500 for a TN panel ether.... Then it does not support crossfire which you will need to push a smooth 100+ fps on more visual intensive new games, which makes running the 144Hz speed you pay for with the FreeSync monitors unreachable.
I'm in the market for a new monitor. But it's the Philips 40" 4K monitor that's caught my eye. 40" at 4K is perfect, as the PPI is the same as that of a 1440p monitor, so no need to adjust windows DPI. I just wish that monitors come with both FreeSync and GSync, so then you're not tied to one Manufacture to get the best out of our games. Usually, Monitors are one of the last things to upgraded on a PC, so they tend to have a 5yr life or so. (I'm the exception lol.) Anyway, when these technology are added to the type of monitor I want, then I will surely buy one. But don't limit this technology just to 27" and below monitors, or the usual 34" ultrawide. My perfect monitor would be 39-40" 4K with FreeSync/GSync, IPS or VA panel with 10bit+ (I can only dream though...)
I'm not looking for a new monitor but I'm hoping that the "free" part of freesync will mean that my next monitor will have it anyway for a minimal premium and I'll enjoy the advantages it gives whatever my hardware at the time. As opposed to the "G" part of the alternative, which seems to lean more towards licensing, premium pricing and being tied to a manufacturer.
FreeSYnc is one of the big things I want in my next monitor purchase... BUT the only thing I can see standing in the way is: my current monitor looks so good in games. The colours are fantastic. Space in Elite Dangerous looks black, wonderfully black. If BenQ brought out my monitor again, with FreeSync, I would be all over it like an Oil company CEO is his Jersey home now, just living his life, minding his day to day banking, you know, like all the other locals.
Don't like the fact that if you go g sync or free sync your locked down to one brand. I have a nice monitor and will upgrade to a 4k display once gpu tech catches up a bit. Monitor is the last thing anyone should need to upgrade expecting people to change or only buy one brand of card will not work out for either company. Nvidia are just pricing everything so high with a free reign due to no competitive products from another company. If you look at the gpu landscape today would you really want to be tied to a platform that has not released a new high end single gpu in nearly 18 months. And if the rumours are true it will be close to 2 years since the 290x launch to the launch of the 390x.
How about this? BenQ XL2730Z 27" 1440P FREESYNC 144Hz Gaming Widescreen LED Monitor - Black/Red I would directly link to it on OcuK, but I'm not sure if that's within the forum rules.
you dont need to push the limits of a 144hz monitor to benefit from it. Gameplay will appear smoother on a 144hz rather than a 60hz monitor.
Not until we see a monitor that supports lower refreshes than 40Hz, FreeSync is looking very good but until we get monitors that can support around the 30-80Hz/fps mark it seems to fall a little short. Don't get me wrong if my current monitor packed up and i had a card that supported FreeSync i would make sure the replacement had it, until then though I'm going to wait to see if other monitors support a wider range of refresh rates. Apparently they don't charge a licensing fee, and until more than just AMD decide to support FreeSync for all intents and purposes it's also tied to a single manufacturer, fingers crossed that Intel decide to support it and maybe that will put pressure on Nvidia.
Your in dreamland if you think nvidia will support it. G sync will have to die first not gonna happen otherwise.
They charge a fee that they can set for a propriety piece of hardware that has to be integrated into the monitor. Same difference really. Freesync may effectively be tied to one manufacturer at the moment, but the restrictiveness of G-Sync is the driving force behind the problem. I hope the monitor manufacturers put pressure on Nvidia by introducing cheaper and wider freesync models. Intel would probably then follow with support if they hadn't already, given they aren't really aiming at people who would pay a premium for a gaming monitor. If it ends up being the norm that your choice of monitor (something most people replace relatively infrequently) locks you into you GPU manufacturer I'm going to be really pissed off. And I think to stop that situation happening, G-Sync must die.
And that's why i said ATM FreeSync falls a little short and why i said i would prefer a monitor with FreeSync versus one without it, it's just the first raft of FreeSync monitors fall a little short (imho) so I'm not going to rush out and buy one until either Nvidia/Intel come to their senses and start supporting it, or we see monitors with a wider range of DRR.
It is the mva panel I'm in love with buddy. I will have to wait till that sort of quality is available. Is there any feedback of whether freesync is good on 60hz?
I will post any reviews of FreeSync 60HZ panels when they appear. I intend on getting a 4K 60HZ Samsung VA panel so I'll be sure to post my findings here.
Don't use AMD Cards at the moment so unless the 390X's stomp all over the Titan X and I can 2 or 3 of them and not, have driver issues with Crossfire profiles etc then I will look at a freesync monitor, otherwise my next cards will be Nvidia and my next monitor will be a Gsync unless Nvidia support Freesync eventually.
I have to say, the Crossfire profiles seem great. I've not encountered any problems in my wide selection of games. Definitely better then they used to be.
