+1 for freedom of choice over benchmarks - look at cars, based on benchmarks we'd all be driving the same car

Oh, I've got the 4400 X2 and a 3500+ single core, and just put my XP2600+ in the bin - time to upgrade to something else I think... anyone know if Sandy Bridge is any good?

    Anyone?

This. I've been saying this for a while. If you are looking at price, and know the chip won't bottleneck you, the only AMD chip people should be buying right now is the Phenom II X4 955, because its dirt cheap and can match/exceed the clock speeds on all these other speed bump chips. I suppose the X6's can be an option if you need the cores for something specific, but the 955's are a great bargain. I'm still running mine at 4GHz, and don't even see any compelling need to switch. Unless I get a frivolous upgrade itch, I'll be either waiting for Enhanced Bulldozer (Komodo) or the latest Intel chip.

    As a Q6700 @ 3.475ghz owner, I can confirm you are wrong.

    If I going to upgrade now, I would go for a z68 motherboard with a i7 2600.

Too little too late, WTF are they doing releasing this now...? Nobody cares about AMD right now for anything other than BD so they seriously need to quit wanking and release that before someone gets fed up and bombs their offices.

The difference is the Q6600 can overclock better than that, mine was at 3.8 24/7 That could run crysis at 1080 with 2x anti alias and the rest of the settings at max and I got 30+fps that was with an Nvidia 8800GTX

I think this is just to clear stock.

You did not get 30fps+ with an 8800gtx, maxed, 2xAA at 1920x1080. In the nechmark perhaps, but the benchmark means squat.

A friend of mine bought a Phenom II x4 980...

The next day I set fire to his house.

could this be tested in an AM2+ board to see is DDR2 actually hampers it?
