    the only reason i can think of someone wanting this is for creating spam accounts on forums.

    probably why no one has responded

    OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is what you are looking for. There are many pieces of software for this. I'm sure a quick search, for OCR, on your preferred search engine will return what you are looking for.

    Rich - There are other uses for it. As an example, when I was at school the registers used OCR to import data from a paper register to a database.
