it doesnt make a difference - intel would be neck high in **** if they made the amd card slower on purpose. by folder i meant folding@home - nvidia cards are about 3 times better at folding, but judging by your reaction i assume you dont care about that to the other poster, yes the gtx275 probably shades the hd4890, but as it costs £40+ more then it gets beat in the price/performance. fyi the motherboard you want is crossfire compatible, so you will be able to add another hd4890 should you wish.
ok i see this: http://www.dabs.com/products/gigabyte-radeon-4890-hd-900mhz-1gb-pci-express-dvi-oc-6457.html?q=4890 and this: http://www.dabs.com/products/xfx-at...gb-ddr5-pci-express-dual-dvi-64TS.html?q=4890 which is better? im seeing the gigabyte one is 900mhz whereas the xfx one is 850mhz, which shall i get? dont really have any experience with either brand, apart from owning a gigabyte motherboard 5yrs back, with no problems.
that gigabyte card looks good - the cooler should help alot (although it wont blow the hot air out of the case). just found this: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...s-performance-hd-4890-cards-gigabyte-msi.html
The HD5770 if you have something weaker than a HD4850. If not don't bother until Fermi comes out, it's not like new games will be that demanding.
look how much less power the 5770 uses compared to both 4890 and gtx 260 the reason you buy the new generations of cards (even if they perform the same as the old generation) is thing slike dx11 and POWER CONSUMPTION (cost of ownership!)
the gigabyte card does look good, is it the same one in dabs i was looking at? also what do you think about the hd5770 like he said? might consider... lol too many choices.
i think it is the one you were looking at (judging by the zalman cooler). the hd5770 isnt really worth buying - it costs the same as the hd4890 but it has the performance of the hd4870. and it gets left in the dust by the gtx260. however, if you can find one for 110 quid then it would work out to a good deal. if you had your heart set on a dx11 card id recommend starting at the hd5850 - but they will be 50-60 quid more than the hd4890.
i have ordered that for my i5 build: http://www.dabs.com/products/gigabyte-radeon-4890-hd-900mhz-1gb-pci-express-dvi-oc-6457.html and this for my e7400 build: http://www.dabs.com/products/asus-geforce-gtx-260-576mhz-896mb-pci-express-2-0-dvi-65ZX.html whats you think? any good for the price/performance. lol i really wanted batman. i was gonna order the gainward gtx260 but novatech took free batman out this morning. bummer so i went for this one
dont worry about asus - they are one of the better brands these days. for my build i was also gonna order a gtx260 but the motherboard i wanted didnt support sli, which was a blessing in disguise really as i found the hd4890 for the same price.
just installed my builds, must say the gtx260 card u i brought was really long, too long for my liking cos it doesnt leave much space.
Why did you ask the question if you already knew you wanted a GTX 260? People have said that although the 5770 is slighly slower, it's only just, but it's cooler, DX11, draws less power and can probably be overclocked to cover the margin, so in the end it may be faster... But my point is, please don't ask a question if you already know which one you want, most people were saying 5770 but you chose the GTX 260... EDIT: And yes, for roughly the same price a HD4890 would have mashed the GTX 260... so next time, please wait a bit for more input
