Hi there So I've got a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro which supports audio over HDMI. The card only has DVI output so I figure that I buy a DVI-D (19pin) to HDMI (19 pin) cable and bob's your uncle. But no sound is coming out of my TVs speakers. The TV is the Samsung LE40M86(BD). Can anyone in here please tell me if I'm using the right cable? And if there is something peticular to be aware of in sound settings in windows in case I am using the right cable? Thank you very much.
DVI doesn't carry audio thats why you are not getting any sound. You will have to use you soundcard and connect it to your tv.
Thanks for your reply but: The whole point of the Radeon 2400/2600 series is audio over hdmi as it has built-in audio. Yes, the Graphics card has built in audio. Then how do I get the promised audio and hdmi out of the card? Thank you.
This was what Wikipedia said: Extensions In Radeon HD, audio signals are carried through DVI when the video card detects a connected HDMI display, which is connected via the HDMI adapter which is optionally supplied by the manufacturer (it appears that the 2400 Pro models do not come with the required adaptor).[1] I didn't get the adaptor... So does anyone know how to get it?
I finally found it. Crossig my fingers that this will sort it. For those of you who might also need the solution: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814998003 Or google for "ati DVI-HDMI adapter" I will leave feedback if this was all there was to it. Cheers
i think youd need some kind of internal spdif connector to get audio going out over hdmi wouldnt you?
Hi fathazza and thanks for the reply The Radeon HD2xxx series come with their own audio functionality and spits it out via an ATI(AMD) DVI-HDMI converter. This is what makes the HD2xxx series so amazingly cool for HTPC purposes.
