http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4575027?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG Is that one any good? I noticed that it uses a metal tip, instead of the ceramic one on the ColdHeat. I always liked the "quick heat" feature of the ColdHeat, but really disliked the fragile tip. Is the Weller any better?
Depends, for an all around use soldering iron I think it's a bad idea, for that your best bet is a standard Weller 30W iron with a good tip. For a portable one to use in awkward places seems like a neat little tool, I don't think this one cools to the touch rapidly like the Coldheat but it seems to be quick at heating up in the first place. Hope that helps.
If you want a portable soldering iron, I would recommend any of the solderpro series of gas soldering irons. They heat up within 3 seconds, and are really easy to use.
