After a mere 20 years of release, BBC Radio One have decided to censor the word
    "faggot"
    from the Xmas classic
by Kirsty McColl & Shane McGowan, "Just in case anyone might be offended by the word". :sigh:

(A word which also means a: A bundle of firewood, or b: A meatball-like delicacy from the UK's Midland region).

Until such time as they reverse this decision, I am censoring the words
    "BBC Radio One"
    from my listening habits.

NB. ONLY Radio One are doing this, Radio Two are playing the uncut version.

Listen to Radio 4 then, where swearing is relatively common.

... and while we're at it, lets paint over the naughty bits in Michelangelo's fresco in the Sistine Chapel, take a chisel to the privates on various Greek statues and definitely censor Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn" because of a prodigious use of the "N-word".

:hehe:, Nexxo. That reminds me of ole' US Attorney General John Ashcroft, who was labeled a prude a few years back for having the breasts of the statue of Lady Justice covered up while he gave a speech in front of it. Linky. Good for a laugh, albeit sad. Go ahead and say it while shaking your head....'AAAAMERICANS!' :hehe:

Radio 1 have reversed their decision. Fairytale of New York will now be aired uncensored. Common sense prevails!

R1 is bloody awful, all the presenters are incredibly annoying (especially jo whiley) and the playlist barely changes from day to day.

Another vote for radio one being crap. Sarah Cox should have her vocal chords removed.

It was all over BBC SCR today. Latest claims are it was a publicity stunt by R1...

I seem to recall that the F word that's causing all the fuss here was a derogatory term from a long while back that was not linked in anyway to any kind of gay insult. I'm thinking this is a result of some crusading politically correct bleeding heart liberal that is seeking to right wrongs that aren't really all that wrong in the first place - I mean name calling, sheesh. Plus its also probably a knee-jerk panic reaction as a result of that actor (can't remember his name and don't really care anyway) from Grey's Anatomy that was recently fired for calling one of the gay members of the cast by this name.

I honestly believe that political correctness is getting out of hand and its all our own fault for sitting back and letting happen, it started as little bits here and there and has now snowballed into something thats bordering on the ridiculous and all because we didn't tell them to bugger off right at the start.

Radio 1, to me is utter rubish, it used to be good years ago, in the time we had music that was listenable, unlike today.

Virgin Radio or Ocean FM for me:p

It seems abit stupid to censor a word thats been used happily on the radio for the past 20 years.
