Shouldn't the Germans get .ge or .brd, or something like that?

Oddly enough, last track played on my mp3 player: California Uber Alles.

I still maintain that .cx is the best tld.

penski.co.uk - coming soon (when I can be bothered to get webspace)

I think this thread has highlighted some the issues that really get on my wick when it comes to domain names....

The yanks think that all the gTLDs are US-oriented. They are not. There should have been US-specific TLD's from the start...

.com is for commercial ventures with a GLOBAL scope
.org is for non profit-making orgs

How often do these two switch over??? Companies with .orgs and non-profits with .com...

In the UK, we have one of the better setups, with a reasonably good breakdown of domain categories... .ac.uk, .org.uk, .co.uk, .gov.uk etc.... fairly unambiguous you would think.

I also hate the hijacking of inappropriate domains for petty effect... eg. Italian (.it) and Tongan (.to) spring to mind. www.f*ck.it, www.come.to, etc...

Some countries used to check on your status before you claimed one of their domains but I think that has largely gone out of the window...

I know it is naive to ecpect everyione to be sensible, but want dismays me is how readily all the issuing authorities rolled over so easily.

Maybe I should chill and get out a bit more...?

All depends, if you're a online store .com for us and .co.uk for uk stores, customers like to know that the place there buying from are in the same country but .com's are the most used simply because of the 'ctrl + enter function that lets you just put the name and it will go to the .com

Hmmm... I don't think people go for .com because a couple of browsers have a two key shortcut to avoid typing four characters...

Most people do it because they don't know any better... and the domain registries have given up trying to control it.

Of couse here in the US of A, .com is king.

Do u chaps in the old world go "mysite.co.uk" when a friend/associate ask? or is that implied and u just say "mysite?"

If u have to say blah-blah.co.uk, isn't that like too long? what do people in Germany/Italy do?

.com is not just for America, isn't the lesser known .us for America? So I guess .co.uk supers .us!

The reason why I like .co.uk is because you don't get a crapload of crap bogus websites as you do with .com

i hate .tk with a passion. For a start its always trying to install spyware when using the redirect thingy, and secondly they dont even work at my uni :p

hmmm, suppose .co.uk is good cause if the domain you want is already registered, it usually isn't registered as a .co.uk

    .php?

    j/k

    .com and .net

I use .com for my company website and .net for my online store. (primarily because the .com version of my store's domain name was already taken :p )
