Food & Drink Best mainstream bottled beer

I know mainstream bottled beer cannot touch the 100s of indie beers, lagers, ales, etc (and by mainstream I mean widely available as multipacks in supermarkets), but I was wondering what people think is the best mainstream bottled beer?

Just the type of beer you can have couple of while you sit back and relax watching tv or playing a game, not when your trying to get wasted, basically the best tasting.

p.s. anyone who mentions budweiser you might as well give me the cash you spend on it and i'll send you back my own er 'personal' brew

 

Sam Adams is usually good and the seasonal variations are also tasty

 

Becks, Peroni or Grolsch are my personal faves

 

Was about to warn of budweiser sinning. I may get slapped here, but Brahma is nice, light and tasty. I'm a Guinness draught guy through and through so I usually don't drink so much of the stuff.

 

What has squire got against le budweiser?

I drink either Bud Or Heiniken when on the beer. Fosters occassionally depending on how warm the weather is... but I usually stick with rum and cola =]

Hmm... Difficult one (geography and all).
I'd have to say though:
Windhoek Lager (Should be available overseas as well. Not sure of it's brother which I prefer: Tafel lager)
Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen
Paulaner Weiß
Urbock (seasonal, locally brewed Bockbeer that is mainstream here)

 

Birra Moretti is quite nice, fairly light and crisp.

Since it's available in Tesco's though, I will state that Weihenstephaner is the best beer you can buy. Oldest beer too. Started in 762, commercial licence in 1040. They even do multipacks

What do they call those beers that have a bit of the yeast still in bottom of the bottle. I had one on my birthday last year in downtown Seattle and can't remember what to look for. Yes, it was a good birthday.

 

Since they're available in most supermarkets, I'd go for Leffe (blond) or Chimay (blue). However, my local beer shop has Leffe (9), which is an obvious winner. One 750ml bottle is plenty for an evening.

 

Speights or Mac's Gold.

 

I don't drink Beer, don't like the stuff. I prefer Cider.


But my favourite mainstream Cider is called Aspall's.

If we're not talking ale here (I'd happily fill a thread by myself for that ), I'd go with Asahi (cheeky gits, call it import but it's brewed in Czech Republic), Paulaner, Weihenstephaner and Hoegaarden (I know, I know, Interbrew borged but it's still tasty).

Ah yes i definitely the heavily marketed american budweiser, that stuff is like drinking dirty coloured water.
Budvar is good, shame it shares a name with the american 'beer'

As far as American ones go, Blue Moon is pretty good and easily bought at Sainsburys.

For more mainstream I quite like Heineken, took a liking to that whilst visiting the mother in law in Holland a while back and even though they serve it in a tiny glass with about 3" of head on it, not bad at all.

I will normally go for one of the smaller beweries ones though, something a touch darker.

 

I'm assuming from your post you mean lager and not the real ale.

 

In all honesty I would probably choose any of the wychwood beers.

I'm quite partial to an Old Speckled Hen or Bishops Finger though now that I mention it...
