Sorry, but I have to say bollocks to it.

Vista is nowhere near what it should be, what happened to the Four Pillars of Longhorn eh?

Bloody hell. They just released Vista a few weeks ago, want to charge £350+ for the version with everything and they have the gall to say that there will be a new version of windows coming out in 2 years ?

Are consumers expected to pay £175/yr for this release ? One which needs patching right away and with the service pack release already on the horizon ?

meh denying direct hardware access seems more like a DRM move.

Hypervisors.. bah! How about a mouseless, keyboardless UI -- much like that multi-touch screen interface vid on google. Very impressive stuff.

    Absolutely not.

The introduction of a Hypervisor will in theory put an end to viruses, something I think most people would welcome.

Yes it could and probably will be seen as a clever way of introducing DRM, however I truely believe DRM will not exist in a few years time.

I'm all for the next version of Windows, to be honest Vienna is what Vista should have been, and if this release schedule is accurate perhaps Vista should have been delayed a few years...

I think the removal of the 'Start' button/menu is a brave move, and it will be interesting to see what style of gui they aim for perhaps something more simplified like the Media Centre interface?

I was watchin this program on bbc2 the other day about vista and it said that there wouldn't be another windows os for ages because apparently vista is just so up 2 date and it can update to all the latest specs that there really wouldn't be any point for microsoft to waste billions in another one
but then bill gates loaded aint he dus it reli matter

A new windows in 2009. I might not even have Vista then. Stuff that. Im not ready to upgrade my PC for Vista and when I do I expect it to last a few years. Not 2 then have to upgrade again because then new windows requires more power.

Who can afford a new PC every 2 years?? apart from so called poor students.

WinFS won't be appearing soon. It hasn't appeared in the last half dozen iterations of Windows, no reason why it should appear any time soon.

There was only a couple of years between 95, 98, ME & XP. It's only Vista that slowed the cycle down.

That's cruel, Wil. I am so not ready to hear about Vienna :nono:

On the other hand, it really doesn't matter. Vista pushed me over the edge and by the time Vienna comes out I hope to have largely forgotten how to use Windows.

I agree, with most of you. No point in charging so much, and then paying for another OS so soon. They should have waited, or give it away for free!!

(Am happy with my XP at the moment, will wait to see the outcome of vista, then think three times before i buy. )

I think its all marketing and getting more money!!

Cheers - I'm glad to see that you were able to leave the darkside behind you.

So wait - the longhorn that microsoft promised to us doesn't come out until 2009 and until then people are supposed to pay anywhere from $200 - $400 for an xp servicepack called vista?

I'm so glad I got my macbook pro.

Agreed! I've already downloaded 3 different Linux distros to try and start learning as all the crazyness surrounding Vista and DRM have pushed me over the edge as well! :sigh:

why bring out Vista then? the only reason i would buy it would be for the newer games...

they should have just held vista back another 2 years and renamed it vienna and added what they want to it...
