Fair point, its feasible they basically halt development on the car with the Honda PU and focus on mounting the Merc PU it wouldn't take too long, if the crash structures are not being changed I doubt they would need to re crash test it which was the hold up Force India had with their B spec car. An while the engineers can do their magic, main hold up I imagine will be the legal wrangling, costs, if Honda will let them walk away now and if Merc can start supplying PU's mid season. next week or so we shall see.
Run Merc Engine and slap a Honda badge on it. Add fireworks set to go off 1 lap from the end and their golden
Provisional 2018 calendar... Baku is earlier, Sochi is later and F1 heads to Paul Ricard and kicks off 3 back to back races in late june/early july.
Glad France is back. The last few races there were pretty good. Always wondered, why is Canada not lumped with Us Brazil and Mexico GP? Im now thinking why not have a continental championship? As teams progress though the season a mini championship. Probably won't be worth much but gives teams a way of seeing progress through the season in some ways.
It's further from Montreal to Sao Paolo than it is from Montreal to London, although Montreal to COTA is 'only' two thirds of the distance. From a logstics standpoint it makes no difference, whether going back to Europe or to the other American track it still involves flying the teams thousands of miles. Also, I wouldn't want to race cars in Montreal in October, it would cold, wet and generally very unpleasant.
And up next, Baku with turn 9 which will funnel everyone into single file - yep a borefest is on the cards.
Seen an interesting curve ball in the news, rumours McLaren could tap up Ferrari to run next seasons engine under the Alfa Romeo branding. Seeing as Sauber are moving to Honda from next season it could an interesting option. Also Mr Whiting has officially approved Imola as an F1 circuit again.
McLaren Ferrari would be interesting. It makes me wonder if Ron burned the Mercades bridge on the way out
Less burned, more nuked from orbit from what I gather. Basically on the engine front - Renault probably can't supply another team. Mercedes probably won't because of the above. Their bankrollers probably don't have the time, money or manpower to build their own. That leaves sticking with Honda or grovelling to Ferrari...
If [and it's a big if] it did happen, they'd probably be lumbered with the year-old lumps that would've gone to Sauber had they not switched to Honda.
Especially if its this years power unit. Next year Hondas upgrade will be adding different colours to their fireworks. Each colour represents the multiple things that on Honda can seem to make go wrong
