My foolish friend broke the transistor(I think) off of his VideoCard.

It appears that this is allowing power to come in from the psu, and without it the video card is drastically underpowered, although still functional. Is there any way to fix this? Will micro soldering work, and where would I be able to have it done? Are micro-solders such as this cheap if it can't be done by anyone in town?

Here is the pic if I am incorrect in that it is a transistor.

Looks like a capacitor to me, although it could possibly be an inductor. The best thing to do is to find a high-resolution image of the card and get a reading off the top; capacitors are measured in Farads (Fso you'll see, for example, "330uF) and inductors in Henrys (H, so 330mH).

If you can post the information off the top of it then a suitable replacement should be easy enough to find.

I managed to do something similar with a cap off my 6800GT.

Didnt have the gear to try and surface resolder it, so i ran two short bits of wire and soldered it back that way. Works fine now.

Ah, I forgot that my friend has an AGP card, so that pic is of no use.

However, I found a pretty hi res pic, and I think it says..

    40S(5?)
    330

Here is a pic that actually describes what broke off.

It is the top-right transistor/flux capacitor. :) Here is a zoomed in pic.

You need to look at the original part. Find the one he snapped off, that's the only way to be sure.

    hmmm.

I had that happen (only with one of the lower capacitors on my rosewill 6600gt, and it's still messed up. (screen's fine in bios+ starting up, but the windows xp loading screen becomes fragmented and impossible to read.. ). I resoldered the cap, and the problem exists today.. They can be tricky

Well, the moron lost the part that snapped off. Any idea on what it would be called, so I can search for a replacement?
