"scratches head" I'm confused. There are plenty of positive reviews out there & some not so...

I find most reviews confusing when compared to other reviews lol Hopefully Bulldozer will just be exceptionally fast no matter which way you look at it.

There has never been a benchmark or test that has shown triple channel to be better than dual channel. Difference is like 5%, if that.

Now in the server world however.....

Just reading through that lot, part of me says should I hold out for the 2nd wave of CPUs to launch in 2012. But I suppose the first batch could give an indication of how good they'll be.

With a standard clock speed of 3.9Ghz and turbo to 4.5Ghz, it could be a sign of good overclocking ability. What will be interesting will be how good the first ones are and what they over clock like.

Once again, what do you even achieve by speculating the performance? Nobody knows, nobody's allowed to tell and nobody should be certain because of the rumors.

That's all. Lets just wait for the launch.

A bit of speculation is good. If you think back they said Sandy bridge would be good and I think every one still thought that X58 would still be the way to go and then BAM!!, it smashed X58 into the ground, I don't think any one saw that coming. Ok it shouldn't be hard for AMD to beat their own aging K10 architecture, but it's still nice to think they might be onto some thing a little bit special.

Lets all just hope that little bit of Special isn't, in reality, spelt with a capital R.

Seriously, though; Bulldozer needs to at least surpass X58, (Maybe not the 990X, but it has to come damn close) in order for the consumer to take notice of it, and it'll have to be priced competitively if it's slower than Sandy Bridge.

Sept 19th can't come quick enough...
Can't justify building a Sandy Bridge rig with Bulldozer this close, just hope it is worth the wait....

note to self; triple channel memory is a tick box unless running a server.

    What about quad channel?

But, regardless, they are missing a trick and 5% is 5%. Not 0% or -5%. So it really goes to show... there is a message in here somewhere that I can't articulate, is my point. :eyebrow:

This would give me something to think about. So, if it matches Sandybridge and makes the upgrade relatively painless, amd will have my money again. Otherwise it is the blue corner that wins the prize this time.

Because we ain't got anything better to do while waiting for the launch? Because while lacking any solid performance data speculating is all we got, and humans have a racial tendency for curiosity and impatience.

Also, feel free to skip speculation threads when you find them offensive. Some of us have lots of interest in these.

For me, since LGA 2011 is almost a no go for me so instead I want to build a smaller and more portable MITX rig. For that I need to see which is better, sandy bridge or bulldozer. I will probably looking at the hexacore for the bulldozer... unless the 8 core one is within my budget that is...and that is if Zotac, Gigabyte or Asus releases a board that supports those chips at the form factor (they should I think)
