    Afternoon...

Okay, up until about 5 days ago, everything was fine, the game ran brilliant and I loved every minute of it.

But like a bat out of hell the mouse started playing around, and it has now got to the point of me nearly throwing it out of the window, into the street.

It's like mouse lag but alot worse, you'll be running around and then the mouse will freeze, won't even click. Then it will be fine again, then... it'll freeze. It's only for like a couple of seconds, but it happens every 5-10 seconds. This is such a pain in the arse in multiplayer, I'm being owned just because my mouse isn't doing its thing.

I have a Logitch MX Revolution, that's always fully charged. I have tried the connection dongle in all of my ports, including having it directly infront of the mouse itself. I've updated drivers for the mouse and used the setpoint software, all with no luck. I've also adjusted mouse sensitivity and turned off 'smooth mouse' with no luck.

Remember this ONLY happends in CoD4...

Any suggestions to try, other than re-installing? And if I have to re-install, where is the information kept on your rank and custom class', and single player progress kept, because I can't be loosing that...

Many thanks in advance for any help!

    Sam.

Have you got the Windows wireless connection manager enabled? That's been known to cause a lag every 5-10 seconds, on some wireless adapters, and only on some games.

The savegames for single player are at C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\ then your profile name, obviously.

Where is the wireless network connection manager (vista)? Can't see it anywhere, only stuff to do with actual wireless connections.

Thanks for the location of the savegames, would the online profile be in here, shouldn't be really... Perhaps it's done by IP?

Oh, scratch that on Vista, didn't read properly... :(

The online profile I don't know about tbh, your rank is autosaved by their servers, but I don't know about your weapon classes.

If your multiplayer profile is saved locally, then surely you should be able to share profiles.... meaning you could download a profile at Rank 55 and have all weapons and perks available...

well I dont know but it worked well for me. I had to reinstall windows and saved my player profile (everything in the players folder) and then pasted it back in.

I also had this problem. My mouse would freeze for no apparent reason. It did it in CS1.6 and a few other games except UT2k4 and CoD2, my two main games back then. A few months later it started doing it again but this time in ePSXe (playstation emulator) while playing Gran Turismo 2. Now when I saw that my PC couldn't run a 9 year old playstation game correctly, I got pissed and looked at what the problem might be.

Turned out it was the MySQL Server service that was taking lots of my cpu ressources every minute for about 5seconds

Moral of the story, check your processes

It's happening in Bioshock and Counterstrike now aswell... yet it still perfectly smooth in all other applications and Windows...:sigh:

Looks like a new mouse might have to be purchased. :duh:

If you have one, try using a normal USB mouse, if the problem goes away, then its possibly mouse related, if the problem contiunes, then its not likley to be mouse related.

Is it happening on a laptop, could it be that you put too many USB items ?

Try unplugging everything on USB aside from your mouse, try also to put your mouse on an USB port that has its own electricity source and adaptor...

I seem to have this problem too. So much in fact that I've had to stop using my MX Revolution altogether. Which is very strange because I've had it for a good 3-4 months and this problem has cropped up in the past few weeks, both for general use and gaming. Seeing as I switched back to my MX500 and haven't had the same problem once I'll be giving them a call tomorrow and see what they can do for me. Their customer service is usually very good, perhaps you should do the same if you can't seem to isolate the problem further.

Thanks for the help everyone. I have put the connector dongle on the front I/O of the case, and moved away some books and DVD case that were in the path of Mouse-Dongle, and things seem to have improved a little bit, although not completely! Certainly more useable than it was before!

I think I'm going to be purchasing a Razor Death Adder and a steel series gaming mat next month anyway, and I'm sure I can put up with it until then!

Thanks again for the help, it's appreciated as always.

Try plugging the mouse in via the PS/2 port with the supplied adapter, that solved my issues with crazy MX1000 movements. :D
